CRN’s 2021 Solution Provider 500 ranked North American solution providers by services revenue. Accenture took the top spot, followed by IBM Global Services, Tata Consultancy Services, DXC Technology, and CDW. The ranking is a historical snapshot—not a current vendor list—and CRN reported that the companies on the 2021 list collectively generated $403 billion in revenue attributed to 2020.

The table preserves CRN’s published 2021 order and shows each company’s 2020 position where CRN supplied one. “Not ranked” means the company was not listed in the prior year’s ranking, not that it had no business activity.

What the ranking measures—and what it does not

CRN’s Solution Provider 500 is a North American ranking of integrators, service providers, and IT consultants based on services revenue. It is not a product ranking or a measure of customer satisfaction, technical quality, or suitability for a particular project. A company’s placement therefore indicates its scale under CRN’s ranking methodology, not that it is the best choice for every buyer.

The order above is specifically the 2021 edition. It should not be read as a current ranking: the source does not establish these companies’ present standing, ownership, leadership, or service mix.

What changed near the top

Accenture moved from No. 2 in 2020 to No. 1 in 2021, displacing IBM Global Services, which had held the top position in 2020. CRN cited Accenture fiscal 2020 revenue of $44.33 billion and $23.85 billion in the first six months of fiscal 2021; those figures refer to different reporting periods and should not be treated as directly comparable annual totals.

CRN also reported at the time that IBM had announced a plan to separate Global Technology Services as Kyndryl, an expected change that could affect later rankings. That was reporting about a planned separation in 2021, not a description of IBM’s present structure.

Scale and the pandemic-era business context

CRN reported that the companies on the 2021 list had combined revenue of $403 billion, attributed to 2020. For comparison, CRN said the companies on its 2020 list reported $393 billion for 2019. These are aggregate figures for the respective lists and periods, not revenue totals for the top 25 alone.

CRN framed 2020 as a year of rapid pivoting. Pandemic-driven remote work increased demand for laptops, collaboration and video-conferencing tools, cloud applications, and security technology. At the same time, providers continued longer-term cloud migration and digital-transformation projects. The account explains the conditions surrounding that edition; it is not a current assessment of market demand.

Accenture CEO Julie Sweet described the acceleration during an earnings call on March 18, 2021: “COVID has hit a giant fast-forward button to the future and we believe the demand to innovate at unprecedented speed and scale with rapid adoption of cloud, AI and other disruptive technologies is accelerating.”

How to interpret the companies’ different roles

The list combines several kinds of providers rather than 25 interchangeable firms. CRN’s descriptions span global consultancies and systems integrators, resellers and IT solution providers, cybersecurity specialists, and companies serving government and regulated sectors. That variety helps explain why revenue rank alone cannot tell a buyer which firm has the right capabilities, delivery model, or sector experience.

Use the 2021 placements as a historical reference point. To select a provider now, verify its current services, geographic coverage, relevant expertise, and contracting arrangements directly; CRN’s 2021 ranking does not establish those present-day details.
