Terminator: Survivors is planned as a single-player, open-world survival game set just after Judgment Day. It differs from the released Terminator: Resistance, a story-led first-person shooter set later in the Future War, and from Terminator 2D: No Fate, a 2D arcade game built around the events of Terminator 2. Survivors is still unreleased, and its Steam page lists its release date as “To be announced.”

Is Terminator: Survivors out yet?

No. The Steam listing says Terminator: Survivors is not yet available and gives its release date as “To be announced.” Nacon Studio Milan is named as developer and Nacon as publisher. Treat its features as announced plans, not as a description of finished or tested gameplay.

The latest dated developer update, published December 16, 2025, says the team has removed cooperative multiplayer and will aim for a complete, polished launch rather than an early-access release. It also says no new release date is locked in. This supersedes the earlier FAQ’s co-op plan. In the update, Creative Director Marco Ponte wrote: “We don’t have a new date locked in, but we’ll let you know when we’re ready to share a new release date.” Read the official Steam page and news for current status.

What kind of game is Terminator: Survivors?

The announced premise places players in the aftermath of Judgment Day, as they emerge from shelter and try to establish a foothold in a dangerous world. The Steam description emphasizes open-world exploration, scavenging, a home base, and the choice to fight or evade Skynet machines and hostile scavengers. A T-800 is described as a recurring threat.

How does it compare with other Terminator games?

Game Status and setting Format and announced or released play Why it is a useful comparison
Terminator: Survivors Unreleased; Steam says the date is to be announced. Set in the aftermath of Judgment Day, described as four years after the catastrophe; the FAQ identifies 2009. Official Steam listing Planned single-player open-world survival: exploration, scavenging, base development, stealth or combat, and a persistent T-800 threat. These are announced features, not reviewed gameplay. For players interested in survival and exploration during the immediate aftermath.
Terminator: Resistance Released; Reef Entertainment lists November 15, 2019. Set nearly 30 years after Judgment Day in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles during the Future War. Publisher catalog Single-player first-person shooter starring Resistance soldier Jacob Rivers, with story missions, side quests, scavenging, crafting, and choices that affect survivors and the ending. The closest contrast for a released, story-driven first-person Future War game.
Terminator 2D: No Fate Announced as a licensed game; the cited 2025 PlayStation Blog post identifies PS5 and PS4 platforms. It reworks and expands Terminator 2, with additional Future War missions featuring adult John Connor. PlayStation Blog 2D arcade-style side-scrolling action with playable Sarah Connor, John Connor, and the T-800. A format contrast for players who want arcade action rooted in Terminator 2, rather than open-world survival or a first-person shooter.

How is Terminator: Survivors different from Terminator: Resistance?

The main difference is when and how the games approach the war. Survivors is planned around the fragile early aftermath of Judgment Day: exploring, scavenging, building a base, and managing danger from machines and other survivors. Resistance takes place much later, in the established Future War, and follows Jacob Rivers through a first-person shooter campaign with missions, side quests, crafting, and choices.

They are distinct premises and timelines; the available official descriptions do not establish that Survivors is a sequel to Resistance. If you want a released game in the series with a story-led first-person Future War format, Resistance is the clearer comparison. If the appeal is survival and exploration in the immediate aftermath, that is the direction Survivors has announced.

How is Terminator: Survivors different from Terminator 2D: No Fate?

No Fate takes a more direct route into familiar movie material: it retells and expands Terminator 2 through 2D arcade-style side-scrolling missions, with Sarah Connor, John Connor, and the T-800 as playable characters. Its additional Future War missions include adult John Connor.

Survivors, by contrast, is an original story set after Judgment Day and is planned as an open-world survival game. Bitmap Bureau Design Director and Programmer Mike Tucker described No Fate this way: “Players control Sarah Connor, John Connor, and the T-800 in arcade-style missions that retell Terminator 2: Judgment Day while expanding its narrative.” The platform and game details are in the February 27, 2025 PlayStation Blog announcement.
