What TELUS’s five-year price lock covers
TELUS says its Rate Plan Price Lock applies to the monthly charge for eligible post-paid mobility plans, before taxes, government-imposed fees, discounts, promotions and bill credits. The five-year period starts when an eligible plan is activated. Read the TELUS rate-lock terms before switching to confirm that your particular plan qualifies.
That distinction matters: the lock protects one component of your bill, not the amount you pay in total. Your monthly total can still change because excluded charges or credits change.
What is outside the lock
- Applicable taxes and government-imposed fees
- Discounts, promotions and bill credits
- Feature and add-on charges
- Pay-per-use services, including Easy Roam
TELUS says the lock may be removed if you change or renew your plan, or if you no longer meet the eligibility criteria. Check the terms for your plan and keep a copy of the offer shown when you activate.

What 5G+ Complete plans include—and what they do not guarantee
TELUS’s current mobility plans page describes 5G+ Complete features including national talk and text, international texting, Call Control and TELUS Rewards. Eligible customers who also have TELUS home services may qualify for a mobility discount; eligibility and discount amounts depend on the current offer.
TELUS advertises 5G+ download speeds of up to 2 Gbps. That is a stated maximum, not a guaranteed speed: actual performance varies with the device, configuration, network, traffic and environmental conditions. A 5G or 5G+ plan alone does not guarantee 5G access; you need a compatible device and coverage.

On unlimited plans, TELUS says there are no data overage charges in Canada. Once you pass the plan’s applicable high-speed data threshold, however, maximum speed is reduced to 512 Kbps for the rest of that billing cycle.
Roaming depends on the plan and destination
TELUS lists Easy Roam from $5 per day. Its Complete Explore plan includes roaming in 68 destinations, subject to destination and usage conditions. The destination list can change. Calls to numbers outside Canada and included destinations, premium texts, and roaming outside the included destinations can bring additional charges. Confirm the current destination list and rates before travelling.

What to check before changing plans
If you are moving from an older TELUS plan to 5G+ Complete and still owe money on your device, TELUS says you must pay off the outstanding device balance first. Device financing through Easy Payment is separate from the rate plan. Buying a new phone is not required to receive a price lock: TELUS says customers can bring a compatible phone or choose a handset purchase option.
- Confirm the plan is eligible for the Rate Plan Price Lock and when its five-year term begins.
- Compare the plan’s high-speed data allowance and the speed reduction threshold.
- Check included roaming destinations and charges outside them.
- Separate the eligible base monthly plan charge from fees, taxes, add-ons and any device payments.
- Check whether your home-service bundle discount applies and whether any promotion or bill credit has an end date.
- Ask TELUS how a plan change, renewal or eligibility change would affect the lock before agreeing to switch.
Why the word “launches” needs context
TELUS’s 2025 annual report says the company introduced a five-year plan price lock across mobile and home services nationally in 2025. That supports the timing of the broader policy, but does not establish an exact announcement date or launch prices for the specific 5G+ Complete plans. TELUS reported that its 5G network covered 90% of the Canadian population as of December 31, 2025; this is company-reported coverage, not an independent measure of performance. The annual report does not provide a consumer-savings figure for the price lock.
