TCL announced the QM6K TV series at CES on January 6, 2025, introducing it as the first series in its lineup with what the company called enhanced QD-Mini LED technology. The announcement is a 2025 launch, not a new 2026 debut. TCL’s engineering figures are manufacturer claims; a TechRadar review of a QM6K unit supplies separate brightness and color measurements, along with practical pros and cons.
What TCL announced about the QM6K
TCL’s North American announcement positioned the QM6K for cinema, sports, and gaming, as part of a phased rollout of its 2025 TV lineup. Chris Hamdorf, executive vice president of TCL North America, said the company would be “doubling down on QLED, QD-Mini LED and XXL screen sizes” while offering what he described as value and quality. These are TCL’s launch positioning and executive remarks, not independent assessments of the television. Read TCL’s January 6, 2025 announcement.
What TCL says its enhanced QD-Mini LED technology changes
TCL describes a backlight and panel system combining a Super High Energy LED Chip, Condensed Micro Lens, reduced optical distance (Micro OD), a CSOT HVA panel, and new Quantum Dot Technology. In the company’s explanation, the redesigned backlight is intended to improve light control and reduce halos around bright objects, while the panel’s dark state blocks more light when the LCD closes.
The performance numbers below are claims TCL made in its 2025 launch announcement, not independent measurements or guarantees for every QM6K size and viewing condition.

Models, features, and current listing
TCL’s current US product page describes the QM6K as a QD-Mini LED QLED 4K UHD smart TV with Google TV. It currently lists 55-, 65-, 75-, 85-, and 98-inch sizes, and advertises up to LD500 dimming zones, TCL Halo Control System, High HDR Brightness, High Contrast HVA, Dolby Vision IQ, IMAX Enhanced, DTS Virtual:X, and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. See TCL’s US QM6K product page.
There is a size-list discrepancy across the sources: TechRadar’s 2025 review says the February 2025 launch range included 50-, 55-, 65-, 75-, 85-, and 98-inch models, while TCL’s current US page lists five sizes and omits 50 inches. The review also reports up to 144Hz refresh rate, four HDMI ports including two HDMI 2.1 ports, Google TV, and support for Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG. Check the specifications for the exact size and seller listing you are considering rather than assuming every model has identical availability or specifications. Read TechRadar’s QM6K review.

What an independent review found
TechRadar reports using a QM6K for a month and running benchmarks in its testing lab. Its review found good color and contrast and very good control of blooming, while describing brightness as about average for a budget Mini LED television. It also noted minor corner vignetting and reflections in bright rooms.
For its review unit, TechRadar measured HDR peak brightness of 559.8 nits in Filmmaker mode and 695.5 nits in Standard mode. Fullscreen HDR brightness measured 476.8 nits in Filmmaker mode and 594.4 nits in Standard mode. Its review-unit color-gamut results were 94.7% UHDA P3 and 71.2% BT.2020. These are measurements of that review unit, not TCL’s claimed figures or a guarantee for all sizes and settings.

The review describes the built-in audio as a 2.1-channel, 40W Onkyo system and considers it somewhat boxy. That may be acceptable for everyday viewing, but viewers who prioritize sound may want to account for an external soundbar.

The QM6K is worth considering if you want a Mini LED television with local dimming, a broad set of HDR formats, gaming-oriented features, and Google TV. TechRadar’s review supports a case for good color and contrast with well-controlled blooming, but its measured brightness was not exceptional for the category. Room brightness, reflections, the exact size, and your expectations for built-in sound all matter to the decision.

For gaming, consider refresh rate and HDMI 2.1 support alongside brightness and local-dimming behavior. TechRadar reports rates up to 144Hz and discusses automatic Game Mode, but specifications alone do not establish how every game, size, or connected setup will perform.
When comparing it with alternatives, TechRadar describes the Hisense U7N as brighter but more affected by blooming, and the Roku Pro Series TV as offering a different mix of audio and design features. For a useful current comparison, check same-size prices on the same date, including whether either price is promotional, and weigh HDR brightness, blooming, HDR formats, refresh rate, HDMI 2.1, smart-TV usability, and the cost or space needed for a soundbar.
