Choose the TCL NXTPAPER 14 if a very large, matte screen for reading and media matters more than easy portability—and you are comfortable buying its T-Pen separately if you need a stylus. Choose the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE if you want a smaller, lighter tablet with an included S Pen, microSD expansion, and Samsung’s stated IP68 rating for the tablet and pen. Neither is a universal winner: the right choice depends on how you carry, read, write, and use your tablet.

At a glance: the trade-offs that matter

Feature TCL NXTPAPER 14 Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE
Display 14.3 inches; TCL lists 2400 × 1600 pixels on its regional specification page, with a matte NXTPAPER 3.0 display emphasis. TCL; TCL Canada 10.9 inches; 2304 × 1440 pixels on Samsung’s cited Wi-Fi 256GB specification page. Samsung
Weight 760g, according to TCL’s product specifications. TCL 523g for Samsung’s cited Wi-Fi variant; weight may vary slightly by configuration. Samsung
Stylus T-Pen is optional in TCL Canada’s listing; accessory availability can vary by market. TCL Canada S Pen support; Samsung describes the inbox S Pen as IP68 rated under specified test conditions. Samsung
Battery and charging 10,000mAh capacity and 33W PD charging, as listed by TCL. TCL 8,000mAh typical capacity; Samsung rates the cited model for up to 18 hours of wireless video playback. Samsung
Memory and storage 8GB physical RAM, up to 8GB RAM expansion, and 256GB storage, per TCL. TCL Samsung lists 6GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB variants on its cited page; microSD expansion is supported up to 1TB. Samsung
Water resistance TCL lists an IP54 rating. TCL Canada Samsung says the tablet and included S Pen are IP68 rated under specific freshwater test conditions; see the durability section below. Samsung

Which screen better suits your reading and media?

Choose TCL for a larger matte-screen workspace

The NXTPAPER 14’s 14.3-inch display is substantially larger than the S9 FE’s 10.9-inch panel. TCL’s NXTPAPER 3.0 materials describe a matte anti-glare surface, low-blue-light filtering, automatic brightness and color-temperature adjustments, and reading and media modes. The company positions the screen for reading, streaming, and gaming. Those are manufacturer-described features, not proof of a medical or long-term eye-health benefit, and they cannot guarantee comfort for every reader. TCL’s NXTPAPER 14 product page

Choose Samsung for a more compact conventional tablet

Samsung lists a 10.9-inch TFT panel with 2304 × 1440 resolution for the cited S9 FE Wi-Fi model. Its smaller format is easier to carry and handle than TCL’s expansive screen, while still providing a screen for notes, browsing, and video. TCL Canada specifies a 3:2 aspect ratio, IPS LCD, and 60Hz refresh rate for its regional listing; do not assume every market’s product page publishes identical configuration details. How much does portability matter?

The TCL weighs 760g and measures 322.41 × 222.02 × 6.95mm, according to TCL. Samsung’s cited 256GB Wi-Fi S9 FE is 523g and measures 165.8 × 254.3 × 6.5mm. That is a 237g difference between these listed configurations, alongside a major screen-size difference. If you expect to hold the tablet for long reading sessions or carry it daily, the Samsung’s lower listed weight is a practical advantage; the TCL’s size is the trade-off for its much larger display. Samsung configuration can affect weight slightly. TCL specifications; Samsung specifications

Which tablet makes more sense for handwriting and accessories?

Samsung confirms S Pen support and highlights note-taking with Samsung Notes and Goodnotes; its cited page describes the inbox S Pen as IP68 rated. TCL Canada identifies the T-Pen as optional and says accessories are sold separately or may vary by market. TCL’s global listing also describes an optional flip case with adjustable positions. Check the exact regional bundle and stylus compatibility before purchasing: the Samsung pen is included in the cited product description, while a TCL setup with pen or case may require an additional purchase. Battery capacity is not the same as battery life

TCL lists a 10,000mAh battery and 33W PD fast charging. Samsung lists an 8,000mAh typical battery capacity for the cited S9 FE and rates it for up to 18 hours of wireless video playback and up to 16 hours of Wi-Fi internet use. These are manufacturer specifications and rated figures, not results from a controlled comparison. The TCL has the larger listed capacity, but that alone does not establish which tablet lasts longer in real-world use. TCL; Samsung

Performance, RAM, and storage: what the specifications do—and do not—say

TCL lists a MediaTek Helio G99 processor, 8GB physical RAM with up to 8GB of RAM expansion, and 256GB storage. Samsung lists an octa-core processor with 2.4GHz and 2GHz CPU speeds, plus configurations from 6GB RAM/128GB storage to 8GB RAM/256GB storage. Samsung’s cited listing also supports microSD cards up to 1TB. RAM expansion is not the same as physical RAM, and these specification sheets do not establish a benchmark or real-world speed winner. Choose Samsung if microSD expansion or a lower-memory configuration is important; neither product’s listed specifications alone justify a claim that it is better for demanding games. TCL; Samsung

What the water-resistance ratings mean

Samsung says the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and inbox S Pen are IP68 rated, based on submersion in up to 1.5m of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Samsung also cautions that resistance can diminish over time and advises against beach or pool use. The rating is not a promise that the tablet is beach- or pool-proof. TCL lists IP54 for the NXTPAPER 14 in its regional product material, a different rating; avoid treating the two ratings as equivalent protection. Samsung; TCL Canada

Price, configuration, and software support are market-specific

TCL Canada’s listing displayed a price of $359.99 CAD alongside a crossed-out $469.99 CAD and showed the product as sold out at the time captured. That is a regional storefront snapshot, not a current price or a promise of stock. Samsung’s cited source is a regional specification page rather than a comparable current selling price. Compare prices available in your own market for the exact Wi-Fi or cellular and RAM/storage variant, and include the TCL stylus or case if you need one. The available product materials do not establish directly comparable current Android-version or security-update commitments for both tablets, so software support cannot be used here to declare a winner. Which one should you buy?

  • Buy the TCL NXTPAPER 14 if you want the biggest screen and specifically value TCL’s matte, reading-oriented display features for desk-based reading, streaming, or a larger on-screen workspace.
  • Buy the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE if you want a lighter, smaller tablet, an included S Pen, microSD expansion, or Samsung’s stated IP68 rating and its accompanying freshwater test conditions.
  • Compare local bundles before deciding if price is the deciding factor: the available TCL price observation is Canadian and showed sold-out status, while the Samsung source does not provide a like-for-like live price.
