The Taur II keeps the defining feature of Taur’s electric scooter—the rider stands facing forward on split foot platforms—but updates the hardware around it. In July 2023, New Atlas reported a 500 W rear-hub motor, a 24 mph (39 km/h) top speed and claimed ranges of 26 miles for the standard model and 39 miles for the Plus. Those are launch-era specifications, not independently tested results or confirmation that the scooter is currently for sale.
What makes the Taur II different from a conventional e-scooter?
Most e-scooters put both feet on a narrow deck, with the rider standing sideways. Taur uses two separated platforms—described as a “twin ski” position—so the rider faces forward. Red Dot’s 2022 design-concept entry said this lets the rider face forward “just like being in a car or on a bicycle.” That entry describes the earlier concept, not a current Taur II specification sheet. Red Dot Design Award’s concept entry also characterized the design as wider than standard scooters.
The stance is the core concept, rather than a change Taur introduced with the second generation. The Taur II update retained it while revising the scooter’s wheels, wheelbase, braking and equipment.
What changed on the Taur II?
New Atlas’s July 19, 2023 launch report described the Taur II as having larger, wider 12.5-inch Unilli puncture-resistant tires and a longer wheelbase. It reported a front hydraulic disc brake paired with rear regenerative braking, plus a foldable, powder-coated aluminum frame.

Motor, speed and claimed range
New Atlas reported a 500 W rear-hub motor and a 24 mph (39 km/h) top speed. It listed two battery versions:
| Launch variant | Reported range | Reported weight |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 26 miles (42 km), as reported by New Atlas in July 2023 | 43 lb (19.5 kg), as reported by New Atlas in July 2023 |
| Plus | 39 miles (about 63 km), as reported by New Atlas in July 2023 | A couple of pounds heavier than standard, according to New Atlas in July 2023 |
These are reported product specifications, not results from an independent range or speed test. New Atlas said the scooter’s speed would be limited according to destination country. A claimed range should not be treated as a guarantee for a particular rider or trip.

The launch report listed integrated lighting: a 300-lumen Cree headlight, an 80-lumen brake/tail light, projection lighting intended to illuminate the rider’s back, and 200-lumen turn signals. These figures and equipment descriptions reflect the 2023 report, not a current verified retail specification.

Is the Taur II available now?
The reviewed sources do not establish current inventory, price, fulfillment status or regional delivery. The Kickstarter campaign ran from July 18 to August 17, 2023, and its page—last updated February 29, 2024—records $280,708 pledged toward a $25,000 goal by 234 backers. Those are historical campaign figures, not evidence of present-day availability. The campaign page is useful for its history, but an old preorder or campaign page should not be mistaken for a live offer.
TAUR’s campaign FAQ said the Taur II was “set to ship in May 2024,” while warning that the date was an estimate and production delays could occur. The same July 2023 FAQ described intended shipment to nearly 30 countries, including the US, Canada, UK and EU. Neither the estimated date nor the target geography establishes whether the scooter shipped, is in stock, or can be delivered to a particular address today. TAUR’s campaign FAQ also says the first-generation product launched on Kickstarter in 2020 and shipped in 2022; that company statement concerns the earlier model, not Taur II fulfillment.

What should a prospective buyer check?
- Confirm there is a current offer. Verify directly with Taur that the exact model is available, what it costs, when it ships, and whether delivery and support are offered in your region.
- Check the model’s current specifications. Confirm the battery version, claimed range, weight and included equipment against the seller’s present listing rather than relying on launch coverage.
- Check local riding rules. New Atlas reported country-specific speed limiting and discussed UK restrictions on privately owned e-scooters in the context of a 2023 company pledge to pay customer fines. That historical pledge is not legal advice or proof of current law. Check the rules where you plan to ride; do not treat an app’s settings as permission to exceed a legal limit.
- Consider the physical trade-off. The forward-facing split platforms and larger tires define the riding layout, while the longer wheelbase and reported 43 lb standard-model weight matter when carrying or storing it. Red Dot’s earlier design entry described vertical storage and a modular service approach for the concept, but those descriptions do not verify Taur II storage dimensions or service terms.
What does TAUR say about water resistance and care?
TAUR’s campaign FAQ states an IP55 rating and a two-year warranty, recommends indoor storage for long periods, and advises against riding through deep standing water. These are the manufacturer’s claims and care guidance; the reviewed sources include no independent ingress-protection test report. Check the current warranty terms and manual for the exact scooter being offered before purchase.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the second generation change the idea?
Not fundamentally: Taur II retains the face-forward stance that distinguishes Taur’s design. Its reported second-generation changes focus on the wheel and chassis package, braking, lighting, controls and tracking. Whether that package suits an individual rider depends on comfort with the split-platform stance, the scooter’s width and weight, and the rules and riding conditions where it will be used. The launch-era reports do not provide a controlled comparison with conventional scooters or independent performance testing.
