What TaskOne included
TaskLab’s August 2013 launch announcement described an aluminum-and-polycarbonate case carrying 22 tools, held in place by spring assemblies and released with low-profile buttons. The company’s founder and chief engineer, Addison Shelton, said: “TaskOne was designed to be both a serious and functional tool and a stylish and protective case.” That was the company’s stated goal, not an independent performance finding.
- A 2.5-inch knife and a 1.8-inch saw blade
- Small and large flathead screwdrivers and a Phillips screwdriver
- Pliers with an integrated wrench, wire cutters, and a wire stripper
- Six metric Allen wrenches and spoke wrenches
- A bottle opener, ruler, and kickstands
The listed tool count and dimensions are historical launch specifications from TaskLab’s 2013 announcement, not independent measurements.
Original TaskOne and G3 compatibility
Compatibility is limited to the older iPhone models identified in the period announcements. The original TaskOne was announced for iPhone 4, 4S, and 5. TaskLab announced the G3 in July 2014, and its distributor specified an iPhone 5/5S case. The G3 announcement described 22 hardened stainless-steel tools, two kickstands, a universal saw blade mount, and a 2.5-inch knife.

Neither announcement supports compatibility with recent iPhones. A case made for these older models should not be treated as a fit for a newer phone.
How useful was it as a tool?
Reviews suggest TaskOne was best suited to occasional, light-duty jobs rather than repeated work or replacing a conventional multitool. Macworld’s hands-on review found some small tools, including the Allen wrench and pliers, awkward for routine use, while noting that the blade could be removed. The 2021 iPhone Life review also lists the tool set and says the knife could be removed.

iPhone Life recounts a user’s concern that saw shavings might enter the headphone-port opening while sawing. This is an anecdote reported in the review, not a measured defect or a finding that every unit experienced the issue.
What to weigh against a regular multitool or phone case
TaskOne’s appeal was combining a case and small tools in one object. That integration also imposes trade-offs: the available fit was tied to specific older iPhones, and reviewers described some tools as awkward. The available reviews do not provide controlled side-by-side testing against a conventional multitool, nor quantified comparisons of bulk, protection, or durability. For frequent or demanding work, the qualitative review evidence does not establish that TaskOne could replace a full-size tool.

Blade removal, travel, and availability
Macworld recommended removing the blade before airport travel. That is the reviewer’s practical caution, not a statement of current law or security policy. Travel rules vary by place and circumstance, so check the relevant carrier and security authority before carrying any knife.
