Yes—Tabnine offers a Provenance and Attribution feature that checks AI-generated code against a selected reference set of publicly visible GitHub code and can flag matches with repository and license information. It is a review safeguard, not a legal ruling or proof that unflagged code is original or risk-free. Tabnine’s documentation describes the feature as a private preview for Enterprise customers by request.
What Tabnine’s code check does
Tabnine introduced the capability as Code Provenance and Attribution in a December 17, 2024 announcement. Its current documentation calls it Provenance and Attribution. Tabnine says it checks generated code in Chat and Agent workflows against publicly visible GitHub code, and can present matched snippets, source repositories, and license information. Tabnine’s launch announcement describes checks for exact and functional or implementation matches, including cases where variable names differ.
The point is to give a developer or organization evidence to review when deciding whether to use, modify, or replace a suggestion. A match does not by itself establish infringement, and no match does not certify that code is original, permissively licensed, or safe to use.
Two safeguards at different stages
Tabnine describes separate training-time and inference-time protections. They address different parts of the workflow and should not be treated as interchangeable.

How the match and review flow works
Reference database and matching
Tabnine says it maintains a database of code signatures and metadata, including license information, commit hash, repository, and repository popularity information. Its documentation says the reference set is limited to GitHub open-source projects above a popularity threshold and is updated about once per quarter. It does not claim exhaustive coverage of every GitHub repository or every code source that a model might reproduce.

According to Tabnine, the system uses a generated snippet to calculate signature hashes; plain-text code is not sent to the attribution service, and only signature hashes identified through the described filter are sent there. This is the company’s explanation of its system, not an independently verified privacy or technical audit.
Agent workflow and censorship
Tabnine places attribution and censorship at the final step of generation. In the Agent flow, when censorship is enabled, the check takes place before the apply-code action. If it identifies a match longer than 150 characters from a non-permissive codebase, the documented flow asks the agent to rewrite the offending portion and checks again before applying code.

Censorship must be explicitly enabled for Agent. With it active, auto-apply does not work; a developer can prompt the agent to rewrite the flagged portion and have it checked again. Treat this as a workflow control that can interrupt or alter a suggestion, not as an automatic determination that a particular use is illegal.
Documented support and requirements
Tabnine’s documentation lists Chat and Agent as supported form factors and names these supported programming languages: Python, C, Kotlin, JavaScript, C++, Ruby, TypeScript, C#, Scala, Java, Objective-C, Swift, Rust, Pascal, Groovy, Go, F#, PHP, and R. The documented match requirement is a multiline match of at least 150 characters. The documentation also states a requirement of up to 10 TB of free storage. Availability and model coverage
The documentation describes Provenance and Attribution as a private preview available to Tabnine Enterprise customers by request through Support. It says the feature works across supported models including Anthropic, OpenAI, Cohere, Llama, Mistral, and Tabnine. Preview access, model support, packaging, and requirements can change, so organizations should confirm availability with Tabnine before planning deployment. Tabnine’s protection page currently says the company has been acquired by Tricentis; the cited material does not establish the acquisition date or terms.
What a flagged or unflagged result means for a team
A flagged result is a prompt to examine the matched code, the reported license, the proposed use, and the organization’s policy. The relevant action may be to obtain approval, comply with applicable license obligations, replace the code, or ask for a rewrite. The attribution output alone does not decide whether a use is legally permissible.

An unflagged result is not a clearance. The reference collection has a popularity threshold and periodic updates, and the documented check has language, form-factor, and match-length boundaries. Code outside those boundaries or reference data may not produce a flag.
Tabnine’s terms place ultimate responsibility for suggested code, its use, and its incorporation into software with the user. Teams should therefore use the feature as one input to code review and license-compliance processes, rather than as a substitute for them. See Tabnine’s terms.
