T-Mobile’s current free network trial is called T-Mobile Trial (formerly Network Pass), not Test Drive. It adds a temporary T-Mobile eSIM to a compatible unlocked phone while your existing carrier and number stay active, so you can test T-Mobile service in your own routine before deciding whether to switch.

How T-Mobile Trial works

T-Mobile describes the offer as a way to try its network for 30 days while keeping your existing phone and carrier. You sign up in the T-Life app and install T-Mobile as a secondary line over eSIM. You do not need to port your number or cancel your current service to test the network.

To use the trial for a meaningful comparison, T-Mobile’s support guide recommends selecting T-Mobile for mobile data while retaining your current carrier line for calls and messages. That lets your usual number remain available while data traffic uses T-Mobile. Setup prompts vary by iPhone, Samsung, and other Android devices, so follow the instructions shown for your phone rather than expecting one universal sequence.

Who can use the trial, and what does it cost?

T-Mobile’s offer page, checked October 4, 2026, says T-Mobile Trial is free for 30 days, needs no credit card or credit check, and ends automatically after the trial. It is limited to one trial per user. You need active service from a non-T-Mobile carrier and a qualifying unlocked phone with eSIM support.

  • The offer page says people who used T-Mobile Trial or Network Pass within the previous 12 months are ineligible. T-Mobile’s support guide instead says six months, so the official pages conflict. Check the eligibility result in T-Life for the rule applied to your signup.
  • The offer page also excludes people who were customers of T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, or a partner using the T-Mobile network within the previous 90 days.
  • Your existing carrier’s terms continue to apply while you keep that service active.

Eligibility terms and the offer may change, so use T-Life and T-Mobile’s current offer page to confirm before beginning.

Check whether your phone is eligible

T-Mobile’s support page lists iPhone XS and XR models and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, and selected Samsung Galaxy families. Those family-level examples do not guarantee that every model variant or carrier configuration qualifies. Confirm the exact phone in T-Life, and ask your current carrier whether it is unlocked. The phone also needs an available eSIM slot or profile capacity.

If T-Life reports that the device is incompatible, T-Mobile’s support guide recommends checking the exact model, verifying the phone is unlocked with your current carrier, and checking whether the device has reached its eSIM limit. A new phone is not necessary if your current device qualifies.

Install the eSIM and test T-Mobile where you use your phone

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi before starting, as T-Mobile’s support guide recommends.
  2. Open T-Life and follow its T-Mobile Trial signup and activation prompts.
  3. Allow the app to add T-Mobile as an eSIM line. The wording and sequence of prompts differ by device.
  4. Set T-Mobile as the mobile-data line and keep your existing carrier line enabled for your number, calls, and messages.
  5. Use the phone normally at home, work, along your commute, and at other places that matter to you. T-Life can provide a personalized coverage and performance report.

If signup or eSIM download fails, first confirm that Wi-Fi and internet access are working, then retry. To judge the network, focus on your own locations and the way you use data; a nationwide claim or award cannot establish what service will be like at your home or workplace.

What the trial includes—and its limits

T-Mobile’s current offer disclosure says the trial includes data for 30 days. Its listed hotspot allowance is up to 250 GB of high-speed hotspot data, after which hotspot data continues unlimited at maximum 3G speeds. Video typically streams in SD unless you activate up to 4K UHD streaming on a capable device.

T-Mobile advertises member benefits during the trial. Its support guide names Scam Block, T-Mobile Tuesdays perks, selected in-flight Wi-Fi, and use in Canada and Mexico. Availability and conditions can vary; consult T-Mobile’s current terms for any feature you intend to rely on.

Apple iPhone Air, US Version, 512GB, eSIM, Sky Blue- Unlocked (Renewed)
  • Universal Carrier Compatibility: This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.)
  • Carrier Verification Required: Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility
  • Simple Activation Process: When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service
  • Package Contents: The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable
  • Battery Health Guarantee: Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%

The offer also includes T-Satellite on supported devices. Satellite use depends on device and network conditions, and T-Mobile says service may be delayed, limited, or unavailable. App availability and performance may differ from traditional cellular service, so inclusion does not mean continuous satellite coverage on every eSIM-compatible phone.

T-Mobile notes that coverage is unavailable in some areas and that a different device may be needed to get full coverage after switching. Your trial experience is therefore most useful as a check of service in the places you personally frequent, not as a promise of identical coverage everywhere.

What to compare before switching

  • Local service: Check calls and data in the places you regularly spend time, including indoor locations and commute routes.
  • Phone fit: Confirm the exact device is both unlocked and eligible for eSIM; a supported model family alone is not conclusive.
  • Dual-SIM behavior: Make sure T-Mobile is handling mobile data while your existing line still provides the number and communications you want to retain.
  • Feature limits: Decide whether the hotspot speed reduction after 250 GB, typical SD video, and conditional satellite availability suit your needs.
  • Eligibility and timing: Let T-Life check your status, especially if you previously used a T-Mobile trial or had service with T-Mobile, Metro, or a T-Mobile-network partner.

When the 30 days are over

If you do not want to switch, T-Mobile’s support guide says to remove the T-Mobile eSIM. If you want to become a T-Mobile customer, the guide directs you to sign up online or visit a T-Mobile store.
