Synology’s enterprise push has moved from a stated roadmap to a shipping product: in October 2024, a company representative said large enterprises generated one-third of its revenue, and Synology planned NVMe models for primary storage; in May 2026, it announced general availability of PAS7700, its first active-active all-flash NVMe system. The revenue share is an attributed company statement, not an audited figure, while PAS7700’s published performance numbers are manufacturer claims—not independent benchmark results.
How Synology’s enterprise direction changed
Synology was widely associated with consumer and small-to-midsize-business NAS, but that reputation did not mean it lacked large enterprise customers. In an October 21, 2024 report, Computer Weekly quoted Ivan Lebowski, Synology’s sales team lead for France and Africa, saying that large-enterprise sales represented one-third of the company’s revenue at that time. He also named UNESCO and French hospitals among its customers. The one-third figure is Lebowski’s statement as reported by the publication; it was not presented as audited or independently verified financial data.
The same report characterized Synology’s portfolio as oriented toward hard-disk storage, while noting its FlashStation SSD line. It said professional products then used NVMe SSDs as cache and that Synology planned models using NVMe as storage capacity in 2025, aimed at enterprise throughput needs. That was a roadmap statement in 2024, not confirmation that such a product launched during 2025. Computer Weekly’s October 2024 report provides the contemporaneous account.
Synology unveiled PAS7700 on May 21, 2025, describing it as an active-active NVMe system for mission-critical enterprise workloads. On May 21, 2026, the company announced the system’s general availability and called it its first active-active all-flash NVMe storage system. Synology says it is available globally through its distributor and partner network. The 2025 unveiling and the 2026 availability announcement mark the progression from plan to product.

What PAS7700 is
PAS7700 is a dual-controller storage platform in a 4U chassis with 48 NVMe SSD bays. Its active-active design means both controllers can serve storage rather than treating one solely as a standby; Synology also describes failover mechanisms intended to preserve access when components or paths fail. The platform supports both block and file access, so it is not limited to one storage pattern.
| Area | Synology’s published PAS7700 specification or feature |
|---|---|
| Chassis and drive bays | 4U chassis; 48 NVMe SSD bays |
| Maximum stated raw capacity | Up to 1.65 PB with up to seven expansion units |
| Memory and networking | Configurable with up to 2,048 GB of memory and 100GbE networking |
| Access protocols | NVMe-oF, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, SMB, and NFS |
| Performance ceilings | Up to 2 million IOPS at sub-millisecond latency and throughput up to 30 GB/s |
These capacity and performance figures are Synology’s published specifications or maximum claims, not independently measured results. The reviewed announcements do not provide an apples-to-apples benchmark or enough workload detail to predict performance in a particular deployment.

Availability, resilience, and data protection
Synology describes PAS7700 as supporting active-active operation and lists several resilience features:
- RAID triple parity and synchronized in-memory write protection.
- IP failover and protocol-level failover.
- Self-encrypting drives, WORM, and immutable snapshots.
- Snapshot Replication and Hyper Backup.
These are vendor-described capabilities; their practical behavior and recovery characteristics depend on configuration and have not been independently established by the cited announcements. Synology also says the system underwent one year of real-world validation through an enterprise proof-of-concept program, but its May 2026 release does not include an independent validation report.

For storage efficiency, Synology says PAS7700 includes deduplication. The same announcement describes Synology Tiering as upcoming: the planned feature is intended to move cold data to lower-cost storage under customizable policies. The May 2026 announcement does not establish that Tiering was generally available then.
How PAS7700 fits with Synology’s earlier storage range
PAS7700 is a more explicitly enterprise-oriented all-flash platform than the product families described in the 2024 coverage. That report included desktop DiskStation NAS, rack-mounted RackStation arrays, the high-density HD 6500, and FlashStation SSD systems. It said FlashStation supported up to 24 flash drives and targeted databases, virtual machines, and online transaction processing. Those details describe the earlier range, not PAS7700.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The report also described file storage over Ethernet and block access over Fibre Channel or iSCSI on some Synology models, often for VMware or Hyper-V backup. Protocol support varies by model; those portfolio-wide examples should not be read as PAS7700 specifications. PAS7700’s own protocols are listed in Synology’s 2026 announcement.
