The cited official prices do not establish a $1,729 gap among the Nintendo Switch 2, Steam Deck OLED, and ROG Xbox Ally X20. As of October 4, 2026, Nintendo has announced a U.S. Switch 2 MSRP of $499.99 before tax, while ASUS lists its ROG Xbox Ally X20 at $1,299.99. Those two figures differ by $800; the reviewed Valve product page does not state a current U.S. Steam Deck OLED price, so a three-device calculation cannot be verified.

What the $1,729 figure does—and does not—show

A price gap only means something when the compared configurations, sellers, region, tax treatment, and date are clear. The available U.S. figures are not a complete three-way price check:

Device U.S. price evidence What is established
Nintendo Switch 2 $499.99 announced MSRP, effective September 1, 2026; Nintendo says listed U.S. prices exclude tax. Nintendo, May 8, 2026 Announced MSRP, not a guarantee that every retailer charges that amount.
Steam Deck OLED Current U.S. price not stated on the reviewed Valve product page. No same-date, same-region price can be inserted from that source.
ROG Xbox Ally X20 (2026) RC74XA $1,299.99 on the ASUS U.S. listing, accessed October 4, 2026. Listed product price; the cited page does not establish a matching retailer, bundle, or tax treatment for all three devices.

The two stated prices differ by $800 before tax. That is a comparison of Nintendo’s announced MSRP and ASUS’s listed price—not the $1,729 three-device gap in the headline. Without a current Steam Deck OLED price for a specified storage configuration and a defined calculation, the larger figure remains unverified.

These handhelds belong to different gaming ecosystems

The names identify three distinct platform approaches: Nintendo Switch 2, Valve’s Steam Deck OLED, and ASUS’s Windows-based ROG Xbox Ally X20. The official product pages cited here do not establish a complete compatibility matrix across their game libraries or storefronts. Check the specific games you want, their availability on the intended device, and any relevant storefront or account requirements before choosing; a broad claim that a particular title works everywhere would go beyond these sources.

#1 Best Overall
Nintendo Switch 2 System
  • The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
  • One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
  • Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
  • Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
  • GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play

Screen specifications: LCD and OLED, with different resolutions

The manufacturers publish useful specification points, but they are not a controlled comparison of brightness, color, reflection handling, or perceived image quality.

Device Published display specification How to interpret it
Switch 2 7.9-inch LCD, 1920 × 1080, HDR10, and variable refresh rate (VRR) up to 120 Hz. Nintendo’s April 2, 2025 launch announcement Nintendo’s listed screen features; not a comparative image-quality test.
Steam Deck OLED 1280 × 800 HDR OLED. Valve’s product page Valve’s cited page gives the resolution and panel type; it does not provide a directly comparable test here.
ROG Xbox Ally X20 7.4-inch, 1920 × 1080 OLED at 120 Hz. ASUS’s specification page Published ASUS specification, not a measured comparison with the other screens.

Resolution and panel type alone cannot determine which display will look best in a particular game. The Switch 2 and X20 list 1920 × 1080 resolution, while the Steam Deck OLED lists 1280 × 800; the source material does not include matched tests that would justify a winner for image quality.

Battery estimates are not a fair endurance ranking

Device Published battery information Limit of the comparison
Switch 2 Nintendo estimates 2–6.5 hours in its 2025 launch specifications. Nintendo Estimate varies with use; it is not a controlled test against the other devices.
Steam Deck OLED 40 Wh battery; Valve estimates 2–8 hours of gameplay depending on content. Valve Valve’s estimate depends on content and is not directly comparable to Nintendo’s estimate.
ROG Xbox Ally X20 80 Wh battery listed by ASUS. ASUS The cited ASUS page does not provide a comparable runtime estimate.

Battery capacity in watt-hours and estimated playtime are different measures. The published figures do not support ranking these devices by real-world endurance; no shared test conditions or ASUS runtime estimate are provided.

Storage, memory, and expansion

  • ROG Xbox Ally X20: ASUS lists 24 GB LPDDR5X memory, a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, and a microSD Express reader on its U.S. product specification page.
  • Steam Deck OLED: Valve’s product page describes USB-C peripherals and an official Steam Deck Docking Station. The cited material does not establish compatibility for a particular third-party dock, card, or case.
  • Switch 2: The cited Nintendo launch specification does not provide a storage-capacity comparison in this evidence set.

Do not assume a storage card or accessory works across devices based only on the connector or product category. Confirm the exact device and accessory specifications before buying.

How to compare the prices fairly

  1. Choose the region and date. The figures above are U.S. prices, and ASUS’s listed price was accessed October 4, 2026. Prices in another country or on another date may differ.
  2. Match the device configuration. Specify the Steam Deck OLED storage tier and any Switch 2 or X20 bundle being considered. A comparison that mixes configurations is not a like-for-like gap.
  3. Use comparable price types. Nintendo explicitly says its U.S. prices exclude tax. Check whether retailer listings include tax, shipping, or a bundle before subtracting one amount from another.
  4. Calculate only once all three prices are verified. Subtract the lowest comparable device price from the highest. With the cited figures, only the Nintendo-to-ASUS difference can be calculated: $1,299.99 minus $499.99 equals $800 before tax. The Steam Deck figure needed for a three-device calculation is not stated on the reviewed Valve page.
