Microsoft added Bing’s AI tools to SwiftKey in 2023, then renamed Bing Chat as Microsoft Copilot. The feature story has since become less straightforward: Microsoft Support now says SwiftKey’s Copilot and Compose integrations have been removed, while other Microsoft product copy and the Google Play listing still advertise them. The current status is therefore not settled across Microsoft’s own descriptions; check the guidance for your app version and market before relying on a specific feature.
What happened to Bing Chat in SwiftKey?
On April 13, 2023, Microsoft announced Bing Search, Chat, and Tone inside SwiftKey for iOS and Android. Search could be launched from the keyboard while using other apps. At that rollout stage, Chat and Tone required a Microsoft account approved for the Bing preview. Microsoft also described SwiftKey’s predictive text and support for choosing up to five integrated languages; those details describe the 2023 rollout, not necessarily every current build. Did SwiftKey rename Bing Chat to Copilot?
Not as a SwiftKey-only change. Microsoft announced Copilot as a unified experience on September 21, 2023, and updated that announcement on November 15 to say Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise would become Microsoft Copilot. What other AI features did Microsoft announce for SwiftKey?
On September 22, 2023, Microsoft announced additional SwiftKey features: AI camera lenses, AI stickers, Editor, image generation from the keyboard, and visual search. Microsoft said the camera feature had more than 250 lens tools and filters, and separately said Bing Image Creator had generated more than 1 billion images. Both figures were claims in that 2023 announcement; the image total was for Bing Image Creator, not SwiftKey, and neither figure establishes current usage or availability. Is Copilot still available in Microsoft SwiftKey?
Microsoft’s descriptions currently conflict. Its Support FAQ, observed October 4, 2026, says: “The Copilot and Compose integration in SwiftKey have been removed.” It directs users to the Copilot mobile app for text and visual content, describes SwiftKey Editor as a proofreading feature, and says an improved Compose experience is being built. By contrast, Microsoft’s U.S.-market Copilot overview, dated September 3, 2024, still presents SwiftKey with Copilot Chat, Search, and Tone. The current Google Play listing also advertises Copilot and Compose, including tone rewriting. Microsoft’s overview warns that features may change and vary by region. These pages do not establish whether the difference is due to documentation lag, app build, platform, region, or a changed rollout. How to interpret the conflicting descriptions
- For the official removal guidance: Microsoft Support’s FAQ is the clearest current statement about Copilot and Compose inside SwiftKey.
- For advertised features: Microsoft’s overview and Google Play listing describe capabilities, but their copy does not prove those functions are available in a particular installation.
- For your own setup: Verify the current instructions and feature availability for your SwiftKey version, platform, and market. The available official descriptions do not provide a definitive, universal status.
What replaced SwiftKey Compose?
Microsoft Support recommends using the separate Copilot mobile app for text and visual creation. Its FAQ says Microsoft is building an improved Compose experience, but it does not give a release date. What should SwiftKey users know about privacy?
Microsoft’s general Copilot privacy statement says users have tools to access, manage, and delete personal data and stored conversation history. It also discusses answers grounded in web content. These are statements about Microsoft’s broader Copilot approach, not a SwiftKey-specific account of how each keyboard feature handles text or other data. Microsoft’s December 2023 privacy statement
