Sui Foundation says a live demonstration on October 7, 2026, processed 40,614,180 transactions per second inside Sui tunnels. That is a reported result for offchain activity in programmable state and payment channels—not a claim that Sui mainnet itself processed 40.6 million conventional onchain transactions per second. Sui said CertiK monitored the event live, but its examination of the proofs and logs, and its report, were still pending.

What Sui’s 40.6 million TPS figure measures

The figure describes activity inside Sui tunnels, which the Sui Foundation characterizes as programmable offchain state and payment channels. The October 7 demonstration included interactions involving chat, games, and payments. Sui said the activity was conducted across more than 10,000 tunnels opened on mainnet.

It is important to distinguish that tunnel-level activity from base-layer throughput. Sui says a tunnel uses two mainnet transactions—one to open it and one to close it—while intermediate activity takes place offchain. The 40,614,180 TPS figure therefore does not mean the base layer executed that many ordinary onchain transactions each second. Sui Foundation’s announcement describes the result and settlement model.

How the live test was presented

The demonstration took place on the Summit Stage at Sui Basecamp in Singapore, an event held alongside Token2049. According to Sui, attendees and people watching online could use a purpose-built explorer to view the activity. The foundation said the test surpassed its 20 million TPS target.

Those details describe the event and Sui’s account of its result; they do not turn the tunnel measurement into a mainnet throughput benchmark. Sui’s Basecamp announcement outlines the Singapore event.

How it compares with Sui’s previous tunnel result

Sui compared the October result with a July 4, 2026, tunnel test that it said reached 6,086,766 TPS. The foundation says both figures measure activity inside Sui tunnels, making the comparison more relevant than a comparison between tunnel activity and ordinary base-layer TPS. The October figure is more than six times the July figure, according to Sui.

July 4, 2026 6,086,766 TPS Sui-reported activity inside tunnels
October 7, 2026 40,614,180 TPS Sui-reported live activity inside tunnels

What CertiK’s monitoring does—and does not—confirm

Sui said CertiK monitored the attempt live. That live monitoring is distinct from the post-test examination described in Sui’s announcement: CertiK was expected to review proofs, execution logs, journals, and supporting evidence, then publish a report in the coming days. The announcement did not say that this examination or report was complete.

Accordingly, the precise wording is that Sui reported 40,614,180 TPS in its live tunnel demonstration, with CertiK monitoring the attempt and a review of the underlying evidence still pending at the time of the announcement. The final audit should not be described as already published or as having independently certified the result.

Why Sui frames tunnels as useful for AI agents

The demonstration’s mix of chat, game, and payment interactions illustrates the distinction Sui is making between frequent application activity and blockchain settlement. Mysten Labs co-founder and Chief Product Officer Adeniyi Abiodun said in Sui Foundation’s announcement that, in an agentic economy, Sui need not process every interaction; it needs to act as the trust layer for them. He compared the settlement layer to a court that resolves disputes. This is the project’s framing of the architecture, not an independent finding about performance or security.
