To reduce apparent input delay in Street Fighter 6, first compare offline play with online matches. If offline play also stutters or feels uneven, start with PC performance, graphics, and display settings; if the problem appears only online or varies by opponent, investigate the connection path. Change one thing at a time and compare similar matches. Ethernet can help you rule out your own Wi-Fi as a variable, but it cannot fix an opponent’s connection, distant routing, or local rendering problems.
Is the problem local input delay or an online connection issue?
Start by separating two symptoms that can feel similar during a fight. Local performance or display delay can make the game feel uneven even when you are not playing online. Connection-related trouble is more likely when offline play feels steady but online matches vary, especially across different opponents. A failed connection is a third symptom: it is not the same as an action appearing late once a match has started.
Use a short offline session and then compare a few online matches in the same mode. This is a diagnostic comparison, not a benchmark or a measurement of latency. Keep the character, display, and other conditions as similar as practical. If the offline session is already choppy, work through the local-performance checks below before changing router settings. If offline play is smooth but online matches differ, focus on the network tests and opponent-by-opponent patterns.

- Check that the PC meets the game’s minimum system requirements. If the hardware is below them, software tweaks may not make performance reliable. Compare the PC’s components with the current Steam requirements rather than relying on an old system listing.
- Update Windows and the graphics driver. Restart after installing updates if the installer or Windows requests it. If a problem began immediately after a driver change, record that timing before trying further changes.
- Check power and GPU settings. Make sure the PC is not using a power-saving configuration that limits performance, and check that the game is using the intended graphics processor where the system has more than one. Exact control-panel labels depend on the PC and driver.
- Close resource-intensive applications. Capcom specifically advises closing applications while playing, including recording software. Save work first, then close unnecessary programs and compare again. Capcom’s guide says, “If the game is suffering from performance issues, please close as many applications as possible while playing.”
- Lower the game’s graphics quality if the frame rate is unstable. Capcom’s stated path is Multi Menu > Options > Graphics > Quality; choose Low or Lowest and compare the same kind of offline session. Many graphics changes require restarting the game, according to Capcom, so restart when prompted or when a setting does not seem to take effect.
- Verify the Steam game files. Use Steam’s installed-game file verification option if the issue persists after the preceding checks. This is a way to check the installation, not a guarantee that a network or performance issue will be repaired.
Change one setting or condition at a time and keep a short note of what changed. If you lower several settings, install a driver, and change the router all at once, it becomes difficult to tell which change mattered. If offline performance becomes steady but online matches remain inconsistent, move on to the network checks rather than continuing to lower graphics quality without a reason.
What does the input-delay option do, and should I turn it on?
A reduce-input-delay graphics option has been described in historical instructions for the game’s second closed beta. Those 2022 instructions are useful context, not a verified menu-by-menu guide to every current release or platform in November 2026. Check the options on your own current game build and only rely on settings your platform actually presents.
As reproduced by GamingBolt from the beta notes, the historical conditions were a display capable of 120 Hz on PS5 and Xbox Series, and on PC the option enabled, VSync off, and a display refresh rate of at least 120 Hz. The notes also warned that screen tearing could occur. This is a display-response setting: it is not evidence that online routing improves, and 120 Hz is a display-refresh condition, not a claim that an online match runs at 120 frames per second.

- Check that the display and connection support the refresh rate you intend to use. A setting in the game cannot make an incompatible display operate at a higher refresh rate.
- Change only the input-delay option and any required setting that the current game itself identifies. On PC, the historical beta guidance included VSync off and at least 120 Hz; do not assume that exact combination remains unchanged on every release.
- Compare offline play, then look for unwanted tearing or other visual trade-offs. Revert the change if the result is worse for your setup.
A higher-refresh display is not a substitute for stabilizing a PC that stutters, and it cannot improve the route between players. The available historical instructions do not establish current behavior on every platform, including Nintendo Switch 2. Confirm current in-game options and platform documentation before buying a display specifically for this setting; no measured input-latency reduction is established here.
Will Ethernet make online matches better?
If you are currently on Wi-Fi, testing with a wired connection is a useful way to remove one variable. It is a comparison, not a promise of lower ping or a repair for every online problem. A cable may make your own connection path more consistent, but it cannot correct local frame pacing, an opponent’s connection, a long-distance route, or a blocked player-to-player path.
- Connect the PC or console directly to the router with Ethernet. If you need a cable, an ordinary Cat6 Ethernet cable is a reasonable option; a special “gaming” cable is not required by the evidence here.
- For the comparison, pause large downloads and avoid other unusually heavy household network activity where practical. This helps keep the two tests more comparable; it is not a claim that household traffic is always the cause.
- Play several similar matches rather than judging by a single opponent. Record whether the symptom changed and whether the affected opponents changed.
- If the wired test does not change the symptom, do not assume a more expensive cable or router will solve it. Return to the offline-versus-online distinction and the specific match pattern.
Wi-Fi versus Ethernet is most useful as a reversible diagnostic. Do not buy a new router, a premium cable, or a generic “gaming” networking product based only on one bad match. If the connection is already wired and stable in other online activities, that still does not prove the route to a particular opponent is good or bad.
How can I tell whether matchmaking or a particular opponent is the problem?
Compare several opponents and note whether the issue follows you into most online matches or appears only with a particular player. Capcom’s manual places Ranked and Casual matchmaking in Battle Settings, and says searching can continue during training. This makes it possible to use normal matchmaking while you are waiting rather than repeatedly restarting a search.

A recent SF6 troubleshooting guide describes a pre-match indication for a relay connection versus direct peer-to-peer (P2P). If the indication appears in your current version, record what it shows for affected and unaffected matches. Treat it as a clue about the network path, not a stand-alone diagnosis that your router is defective. A relay indication for one match does not establish that every match will use the same path or that a router change is needed.
Use the pattern to narrow the next step:
- Most opponents feel similarly bad, and offline play also stutters: return to local performance and display checks first.
- Offline is smooth, but many online matches feel inconsistent: compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet, reduce unusual competing network activity during the comparison, and record whether the pattern changes.
- Only one or a few opponents are affected: avoid assuming that your entire internet connection is failing. Compare both players’ wired or Wi-Fi status and note the match indicator or error code, if available.
- Searching or connecting fails before a match starts: record the precise failure and affected opponents separately from reports of late-feeling actions during a match.
One match is weak evidence. A different opponent changes the route and the other player’s network conditions, so repeated comparisons are more useful than attributing a problem to your own setup after a single result.
What do SF6 error codes 50382-MW1 and 50383-MW1 mean?
An October 2026 secondary SF6 troubleshooting guide associates 50382-MW1 with a player-to-player timeout and says frequent 50383-MW1 errors can be associated with NAT differences. These are clues reported by that guide, not confirmed diagnoses of a specific player’s router, and they do not prove that opening a particular port is the right fix.
If an error appears, write down the exact code, platform, mode, whether it occurs with one opponent or many, and whether each player is on Wi-Fi or Ethernet. If other matches work, the contrast matters: a problem limited to one friend or a small group deserves a different investigation from an error that affects every connection attempt.

Before changing NAT, UPnP, or firewall rules, consult documentation for the console or PC, router, and internet service. Make one change at a time, understand how to undo it, and avoid disabling a firewall as a general troubleshooting shortcut.
