STL’s latest reported results emphasize end-to-end connectivity and AI data-center infrastructure alongside optical products. HFCL’s disclosures cover optical fiber and cable as well as telecom and defense equipment and network solutions. The available company-wide order-book figures are from different dates, so they do not establish which business is currently larger or financially stronger.
How the businesses differ
The useful distinction is in the breadth and emphasis of each company’s disclosed portfolio—not whether one makes fiber and the other does not. Both have fiber and cable operations, while each also sells or describes broader connectivity-related offerings.

What STL’s latest reported results show
STL’s Q1 FY27 release, dated July 24, 2026 and covering the quarter ended June 30, 2026, reported company-wide revenue of ₹1,910 crore and EBITDA of ₹397 crore. Its open order book stood at ₹18,618 crore at quarter end. These are company-level figures, not results for the optical fiber business alone. [STL Q1 FY27 release]
AI data-center products and orders
The release highlights a multi-year contract valued by STL at US$1.11 billion (more than ₹10,000 crore, as stated by the company) to supply optical connectivity products for next-generation AI data centers. STL also reported multiple hyperscaler orders worth more than US$100 million for its Neuralis portfolio, as well as a long-haul dark-fiber, high-density micro-cable order. These are company-reported wins, not evidence that the full contract values have already been recognized as revenue. [STL Q1 FY27 release]

- No risk: 36 months manufacturer warranty
STL describes Neuralis as an AI data-center connectivity suite. The release also names CONCAT pre-connectorized solutions and US Conec-certified MMC pre-terminated solutions. It reports “785+ patents filed and granted”; that wording includes both filed and granted patents and should not be read as a count of granted patents alone. [STL Q1 FY27 release]
What HFCL’s disclosures show
HFCL’s FY2024-25 annual report describes optical fiber and optical fiber cable operations within a wider company that also includes telecom and defense equipment and network solutions. The report gives an order book of ₹10,480 crore as of June 30, 2025. [HFCL FY2024-25 annual report]

Demand, margins, and capacity context
The annual report discusses muted optical fiber cable demand, margin pressure associated with newly launched telecom products, slower customer offtake in EPC, capacity investments, and efforts to expand the portfolio. It also describes a board-approved enhancement of intermittent bonded ribbon cable manufacturing capacity. These are management’s reported conditions and plans, not proof of realized output or utilization. [HFCL FY2024-25 annual report]
In its May 2025 FY25 results release, HFCL expected substantial growth in optical fiber and optical fiber cable revenue during FY26 as domestic and global demand increased. That was a forward-looking expectation at the time, not confirmation that the growth subsequently occurred. [HFCL FY25 results release]

Order books: why the dates matter
An order book is not the same as revenue, and a company-wide order book does not reveal how much work is specifically for fiber products unless the company supplies that breakdown. The reported figures below are dated snapshots, not a synchronized ranking.
| Company | Reported figure | As of / reporting period | Scope and source |
|---|---|---|---|
| STL | ₹18,618 crore open order book | June 30, 2026; Q1 FY27 quarter end | Company-wide, per STL’s Q1 FY27 release. [Source] |
| HFCL | ₹11,125 crore order book | December 31, 2025; Q3 FY26 | Company-wide figure in the release excerpt. [Source] |
| HFCL | ₹10,480 crore order book | June 30, 2025; FY2024-25 annual report | Company-wide figure. [Source] |
HFCL’s December 2025 figure is later than its June 2025 annual-report figure, but it still predates STL’s June 2026 quarter-end figure. The available dates therefore do not support a same-date comparison or a conclusion about which company has the larger current order book.

Which is better for a fiber-business comparison?
It depends on what “better” means. For a reader focused on connectivity solutions and AI data-center applications, STL’s latest release gives those areas particular visibility. For a reader comparing a wider mix that includes telecom and defense equipment and network solutions alongside fiber and cable, HFCL’s disclosures show that broader scope. Neither observation establishes that one company’s fiber segment is more profitable, has greater market share, or is executing better.
A rigorous financial comparison would need aligned reporting periods and comparable segment-level revenue, profitability, and order-book disclosures. The cited STL financial figures are company-wide, and the available HFCL figures are from different dates; they do not provide a like-for-like fiber-segment scorecard. The disclosures also do not establish a comparative market-share or current-utilization verdict.
