To improve in Stellar Blade’s Boss Challenge, learn one attack string at a time: recognize its cue, choose the defense that fits, and attack only after the sequence ends. Then compare your battle data across attempts made with the same difficulty and preset. The game reports performance measures, but Shift Up has not published the formula or weights it uses to determine a rank.
What Boss Challenge measures—and what it does not reveal
Boss Challenge pits Eve against 19 bosses from the base game. You must have battle data for a boss from defeating it in the main story to challenge it. You can enter with your own gear or choose a preset: the minimum preset is intentionally understated, while the maximum boosts skills and stats. These are challenge-condition choices, not published rank tiers.
After each challenge, the game automatically analyzes battle data. The official announcement names battle time, perfect parries and dodges, and consumable use among the displayed measures. It does not publish a rank formula, grade thresholds, or the weight assigned to any measure. So treat these figures as feedback for comparing your own runs—not proof that faster clears, more parries, or fewer items necessarily produce a higher rank.
Defeating every boss on Normal difficulty or higher earns Eve’s Neurolink Suit, according to Shift Up’s Boss Challenge announcement.

How to learn a boss’s attack patterns
- Choose one attack string to study. On an attempt, focus on the cue that starts a sequence and the move that ends it. Treat each distinct string as its own learning target rather than trying to memorize the entire fight at once.
- Test the defense that fits the move. PlayStation’s combat guide advises studying enemy patterns and weaknesses, and notes that some enemies suit blocks and parries while others are better handled with dodges. Apply that principle to the specific move you are learning; do not assume one defense works for every boss or attack.
- Confirm the sequence has finished. Once you can handle the string consistently, watch for the boss to visibly complete it before taking an opening. PlayStation recommends punishing attacks and building stagger, but that is not a reason to attack through an active sequence.
- Use a suitable combo, then reset your focus. Try a combo that fits the opening and stop when the boss starts another sequence. The official guide recommends adapting combos to the enemy rather than relying on one for every opponent.
- Change one variable on the next attempt. If you take a hit or miss an opening, note what happened. Alter one response, combo, or gear choice at a time; otherwise, it is difficult to tell which change helped.
How to compare attempts and improve your results
Keep the difficulty and preset consistent when judging your own progress. A run with the maximum preset is not a direct like-for-like comparison with one using the minimum preset or your own gear, because the challenge conditions differ. The announcement does not explain how preset selection affects rank calculations.
After a run, compare the measures the game displays—battle time, perfect parries and dodges, and consumable use—alongside what you learned about the boss. For example, if you took fewer hits after testing a different defense but your time increased, that is useful information about your approach; it does not establish how the game weighs either result.

- Keep the difficulty, preset, and other conditions steady for a personal comparison.
- Try changing only one factor, such as a defensive response, combo, or gear choice.
- Use the displayed battle data to track what changed between attempts, not as a substitute for learning the boss’s strings.
Choosing a preset or build for practice
Use the minimum preset if you want to practice under deliberately understated conditions; choose the maximum preset or your own gear if you want to test a stronger setup. Either can serve a purpose, but keep the setting consistent when comparing attempts. Shift Up has not said whether one preset is favored by the rank calculation.
PlayStation’s combat guide also recommends experimenting with builds and combos. It mentions practice options and adjustable difficulty or assists in the broader game, but does not establish that every option is available inside Boss Challenge. Check the current game version and mode menus before relying on a particular practice feature or assist there.

Boss Challenge is part of Stellar Blade on PS5. To face a particular boss in the mode, first defeat that boss in the main game so its battle data is available. See the official Stellar Blade PS5 page for the platform listing.
