The initial lineup included full-size, tenkeyless (TKL), and TKL Wireless models. Later additions brought a 60% Mini and a white TKL, followed by limited-edition Cyber and Steel TKL versions.
What SteelSeries announced
The Apex Pro Gen 3 is a family of gaming keyboards, not one fixed layout. At launch, SteelSeries announced a full-size keyboard, a wired TKL, and a TKL Wireless. The company expanded the family on March 25, 2025, with a black Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 and a white Apex Pro TKL Gen 3. SteelSeries describes the Mini as a 60% compact layout. A later announcement added limited-edition Cyber and Steel TKL Gen 3 versions.
The layouts address different desk and typing preferences: full-size retains a number pad, TKL removes the number pad to reduce width, and the Mini uses a smaller 60% layout. The wireless option is the TKL Wireless; the cited announcements do not establish a wireless Mini or full-size Gen 3 model.
What 40 adjustable actuation levels mean
Actuation is the point in a key’s downward travel at which a press registers. SteelSeries says OmniPoint 3.0 lets users select among 40 actuation levels spanning 0.1 mm to 4.0 mm. A shorter setting registers with less travel and can feel more sensitive; a deeper setting requires a more deliberate press. These are manufacturer specifications, not a claim that every key on every layout can be adjusted.

Which keys can be adjusted?
SteelSeries Support says the main QWERTY keys on the Apex Pro Gen 3 and Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 use adjustable OmniPoint 3.0 switches. It identifies the numpad, arrow keys, function keys, and Insert/Home/Page Up keys as using regular red switches instead. A separate support article says 61 keys can have actuation adjusted on the Gen 3 models it covers. Check the support information for the exact model before assuming that an individual key is adjustable.
How the input features differ
Rapid Trigger
SteelSeries describes Rapid Trigger as allowing a key to become active as soon as it is pressed or released, rather than relying on a fixed reset point. The feature is intended to support rapid repeated input.

- PROTECTION MODE — A SteelSeries exclusive feature — protect your keypresses by reducing the sensitivity of surrounding keys when the intended key is pressed, preventing accidental inputs
Rapid Tap
Rapid Tap prioritizes the last-pressed key in a pair without requiring release of the preceding key. SteelSeries’ product description says users can customize five key pairings. It is a separate feature from Rapid Trigger: Rapid Tap concerns how a paired-key input is prioritized, while Rapid Trigger concerns when a key reactivates during press-and-release movement.
Protection Mode and 2-in-1 Action Keys
Protection Mode reduces the sensitivity of selected surrounding keys to help limit accidental presses. With 2-in-1 Action Keys, a user can assign one action to a shallower press and another to a deeper press—for example, walking at one depth and sprinting at another. These descriptions explain intended functions; they are not independent performance test results.

SteelSeries says GG QuickSet offers game profiles curated by championship-winning esports players, with one-click setup for options such as Rapid Trigger, Rapid Tap, actuation, and lighting. The keyboard’s OLED Smart Screen can be used to change actuation and Rapid Trigger settings, view information, and control media without switching away from a game, according to SteelSeries.

Performance claims and what they establish
In its September 2024 launch release, SteelSeries compared a 0.54 ms response time with 6 ms for “standard mechanical keyboards” and called its switches 11 times faster than standard mechanical switches. These are SteelSeries marketing comparisons. The cited release does not provide an independent test method establishing those figures as universal results, so they should not be treated as independently verified benchmarks or guaranteed outcomes in every game and setup.

Design, compatibility, and ownership details
The product page lists upgraded double-shot PBT keycaps, per-key RGB lighting, a detachable braided USB-C cable, and OLED controls. The documented full-size Apex Pro user guide lists a multimedia roller, two-level feet, magnetic wrist rest, detachable braided USB-C-to-USB-A cable, and keycap puller. The guide and product information do not establish that every Gen 3 variant includes identical accessories; confirm the contents for the exact model before buying.
The user guide lists PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation compatibility, while noting that not all software features are supported on macOS. Because platform and software support can vary by exact model and feature, verify the relevant SteelSeries documentation if a particular console, operating system, or configuration is essential.
Which Apex Pro Gen 3 should you consider?
- Choose full-size if: you want a number pad and a wider keyboard layout.
- Consider TKL if: you do not need a number pad and want to reduce the keyboard’s width.
- Consider the Mini if: minimizing desk footprint matters more than having a full-size layout.
- Consider TKL Wireless if: a cable-free setup is a priority; check the exact model’s connection and included accessories.
- Compare standard and limited editions if: the Speed or Control spring-weight options are important to you. The cited announcement identifies different spring weights but does not provide a complete comparison of their feel or performance.
These are layout and feature trade-offs, not a ranking of gaming performance. The cited manufacturer material does not provide independent comparative testing that would establish one Gen 3 format as faster or better overall than another.
