Steam replaced its old stats page with Steam Charts on September 22, 2022. The page is still available at store.steampowered.com/stats, but its rankings are not all the same kind of “real-time” statistic: Top Sellers ranks spending, while Most Played tracks players.
Where to find Steam Charts
Open Steam Charts to see the current rankings. Valve announced the replacement on September 22, 2022, describing it as a better overview of what was popular on Steam. The overview also links to Steam’s Hardware Survey, Download Stats, and Customer Support Stats.
The page is a live destination, so any game’s current rank or player count can change. The announcement describes the charts’ design and launch features, not today’s positions.
What the different charts measure
Use the chart that matches the question you are trying to answer. A sales ranking is not a player ranking, and current players are not the same as everyone who played during a day.

How Steam calculates Top Sellers
Steamworks says Top Sellers totals player spending over the trailing 24 hours and gives additional weight to spending in the latest three hours. The calculation includes purchases of the game itself, DLC, and microtransactions. Valve explained that including this spending can bring free or low-cost games into view when players spend on expansions, season passes, or other content.
Game editions may be combined in the ranking. DLC can also appear as a separate entry for existing owners when it sells strongly. Steamworks says the storefront list is generated automatically from player data, rather than selected manually by an editorial team. As a result, a high Top Sellers position does not tell you how many copies were sold or how many people are playing.

Why your Top Sellers list may differ
Top Sellers defaults to a supported country-specific list when one is available; visitors can switch to global or another country. Valve also notes that an individual customer’s content preferences and filters can affect what is visible. So two visitors may not see identical lists even when they open the same Steam Charts page.

The 2022 update brought together real-time Top Sellers and Most Played rankings, weekly Top Sellers, and monthly Top New Releases. Valve also highlighted weeks-on-chart indicators, weekly rank changes, and a region switcher for supported countries. Its stated aim was to make it easier to see what was selling, what was being played, and how many users were online. The update changed the presentation and range of charts; it did not make sales, player counts, and online-user totals interchangeable measures.

How to read the charts without mixing up the numbers
- Use Top Sellers to compare recent spending, not unit sales.
- Use Most Played for the current-player ranking; use its daily unique-player view for reach over the preceding 24 hours.
- Use weekly and monthly views when you want a longer time horizon than a live ranking.
- Check the selected region and your content preferences before comparing a list with someone else’s.
