As of October 7, 2026, the full game is still scheduled to launch on October 14, and the cited official sources do not list a Steam Deck rating or performance test. The choice you can make now is mainly about where you want to play: handheld with Steam Deck, or living-room setup with Steam Machine.
What is confirmed about Boltgun 2?
Boltgun 2 is scheduled to launch on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 14, 2026. The developers say a Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow later. Their official announcements also describe a free demo available ahead of launch, but do not report how that demo performs on Steam Deck. The August 27 announcement encourages players to try it before launch.
In a September 23 overview, the developers described two playable characters, Ultramarine Malum Caedo and Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath, a branching campaign with more than 30 levels, and 40+ new enemies across the four Chaos god factions. The announcement also mentions Death Korps of Krieg allies on some planets, an automap, expanded accessibility settings, and options including Invulnerability, Infinite Ammo, Unlock all weapons, and a new Undying Mode. These are developer-announced features, not independent performance findings. The developers’ September announcement gives the content details.
Is Boltgun 2 Steam Deck Verified?
The sources cited here do not establish that Boltgun 2 is Steam Deck Verified or Playable. The game is still prerelease as of October 7, and a third-party SteamDB listing records Windows as its supported system; that listing is not Valve’s compatibility rating and does not prove the game cannot run on Deck.

Until Valve displays a rating for Boltgun 2, treat Deck compatibility and performance as unknown. The original Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is a separate game, so its rating or performance cannot establish how the sequel will work.
What Valve’s Steam Machine verification does—and doesn’t—tell you
Valve’s 2026 Steam Hardware Talk presentation says: “All Deck Verified games are Machine Verified.” This is a one-way assurance: it does not say that every Machine Verified game is Deck Verified. Valve also gives a Machine Verified target of “30FPS at 1080p for Verified.” That is a general verification criterion, not a Boltgun 2 benchmark or a promise of a particular frame rate in this game. Valve’s presentation also describes Steam Machine performance as “6x Steam Deck”; that is Valve’s general hardware claim, not a measured Boltgun 2 comparison.

Valve says Machine verification uses the same input expectations as Deck, but does not test display resolution or legibility. Accordingly, a Machine Verified mark would not by itself answer every question about how readable Boltgun 2’s interface will be on a particular screen.

Choose based on your setup and preferred place to play, not an assumed performance advantage for this unreleased game. If portability matters most, Deck matches that use. If you prefer playing on a living-room screen, Steam Machine matches that setting—but the cited information does not settle its retail details or Boltgun 2 performance.

- For Steam Machine, distinguish Valve’s general verification target from an actual game rating or independent test.
- Compare the form factor with your existing gaming setup; the cited evidence does not establish title-specific battery life, frame rate, resolution on Deck, controls quality, or load times.
