To keep a State of Decay 2 community stable, check its stockpiles, morale, and survivors’ condition before spending resources or choosing a mission. Then address the most urgent need with a facility, supply run, or change of survivor. There is no single best base plan: your roster, supplies, and difficulty all affect what makes sense next.
Start with the community’s current needs
Make a quick check at base before heading out or committing resources. The Xbox Game Help manual advises: “Keep an eye on your stockpiles as the strength of your supplies directly impacts your community’s morale.” (Xbox Game Help: Home Base).

- Look at available stockpiles and any visible daily consumption so you can spot shortages before they become urgent.
- Check morale and look for signs of tension between survivors.
- Check who is tired, injured, or otherwise not ready for a trip.
- Identify the most pressing shortfall before spending resources or Influence on construction or upgrades.
Windows Central’s beginner guide also recommends watching base consumption and survivor interactions. Use the game’s current displays to decide what needs attention rather than assuming every community has the same priorities. (Windows Central beginner guide).
Match facilities to the problem you need to solve
Facilities serve different purposes, and building, upgrading, or repairing them costs resources or Influence. Compare the immediate benefit with the cost and whether your community can make good use of the facility. Examples in a facility guide last updated in 2018 include a Workshop for crafting explosives and repairing weapons, an Infirmary for treating Blood Plague and crafting a cure, food facilities for producing food, and morale facilities for improving morale. Those examples are not a universal build order. Facility details and output can change, so check the current in-game description before you spend. Choose based on the shortage you have now, the supplies you can afford to use, and the survivors available to operate or benefit from it.
Use survivors according to their condition and abilities
Survivors are not interchangeable. Their skills, traits, and personalities can affect what they contribute and how you plan for the community. Skills can improve through use and may be specialized, so consider who is suited to a task rather than assigning every expedition to the same person. (Xbox game overview, Xbox Game Help).

- Send survivors who are in good enough condition for the risks of the trip.
- Make use of skills the survivor already has, and develop skills through use when practical.
- Bring tired survivors home to rest instead of treating them as an unlimited resource.
- When choosing whom to use, weigh their capability alongside the needs they bring to the community.
Choose missions around readiness and need
Scavenging and helping neighbors are among the mission types described in the Xbox manual. Some opportunities are time-sensitive, so weigh the benefit of responding against what your community needs and whether the survivor you would send is ready. As the manual puts it, “Decide which missions to take based on your community’s needs.” (Xbox Game Help: Missions).
- Identify what the community is short on or what problem a mission could resolve.
- Check the selected survivor’s condition and relevant skills.
- Consider the mission’s risk and whether responding now is worth postponing another need.
- Return tired survivors to base so they can rest, then reassess before the next trip.
Activity can earn Influence, which the Xbox manual says can be used to access supplies and favors. That makes missions part of base planning as well as a way to meet immediate needs. (Xbox Game Help).

Keep vehicles and nearby threats in your plans
Vehicles can help with supply runs, but the manual describes them as limited and noisy. A beginner guide recommends keeping them maintained with repair kits and gasoline. Treat a working vehicle as useful preparation, not a guarantee of safety. (Xbox Game Help, Windows Central beginner guide).
The same guide recommends clearing nearby infestations because doing so can reduce base threat and improve morale. Consider that advice alongside your current condition and supplies; clearing an infestation is a choice, not a promise that the base will be safe.

Reassess instead of following a fixed base build
Bases and survivor rosters vary, and the game lets players customize difficulty, scarcity, and danger. The official game page describes survivors as having distinct skills, personalities, and burdens, so a facility or mission that helps one community may be less useful to another. (Xbox game overview).
After a mission or a change in the roster, check stockpiles, morale, survivor condition, and visible social problems again. If the next constraint has changed, adjust what you build, who you send, and what you spend. This is more dependable than treating any one layout as best for every player.

What new players should know about the current edition
The Xbox product page describes State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition as an improved experience for first-time players, with a new tutorial and improved controls.
