EA says Survivor can stand alone, so the first game is useful context, not a requirement. The best order depends on whether story continuity or newer combat and traversal matters more to you.
Which should you play first?

Playing Fallen Order before Survivor is the clearest choice for narrative continuity. That recommendation follows the games’ chronology; it is not a requirement imposed by the sequel.
Do you need to play Fallen Order first?
No. EA says each game can stand alone, so you can follow Survivor without completing Fallen Order. Starting with the first game gives you the earlier chapter of Cal’s story, but it is optional. Progress and saves do not transfer from Fallen Order into Survivor.
What changes between the games?
Fallen Order: the earlier chapter
Fallen Order establishes Cal Kestis and his place in the Star Wars story after Order 66. It is a third-person, single-player action-adventure. Choose it first if you want the character and story foundations before moving to the sequel.

Survivor: evolved combat and traversal
EA describes Survivor as continuing Cal and BD-1’s story while offering evolved combat and traversal. The Star Wars Jedi Team called it “a direct response to the feedback from our community,” with “expansive destinations to explore, evolved combat and traversal” and the continuation of Cal and BD’s story (EA announcement).
Exploration: broader destinations, not an open world
Some Survivor planets offer more expansive exploration than Fallen Order, according to EA. That does not make Survivor an open-world game: EA describes it as a single-player experience, not an open-world title. The publisher’s description supports a difference in exploration scope, not a claim that every area is larger or that one game is objectively better.

Difficulty and accessibility
Survivor offers five selectable difficulty levels, including an easier setting for players who mainly want to get through the story. If combat difficulty is your main concern, that range gives you options; EA’s FAQ does not establish a direct difficulty comparison with Fallen Order.
Platforms and PC requirements
EA lists Survivor for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. On PC, EA lists the EA app, Steam, and Epic as storefronts. Confirm the platform and edition on the listing you intend to buy, since availability and editions can vary.

These are EA’s published requirements, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or performance on every PC. Check EA’s current Survivor page before purchase in case requirements change.
EA’s Fallen Order page lists PC, PlayStation, and Xbox availability. EA also announced PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrades for existing PS4 and Xbox One owners at the time, including higher-resolution assets, 4K/HDR, improved 60 FPS performance, and faster loading. Those announcement details are historical, not current purchase terms. EA reported in 2021 that more than 20 million players worldwide had played Fallen Order across consoles, platforms, and subscription services; that is a historical player count, not current sales.

What to know before buying a Survivor disc
EA says a physical copy of Survivor needs an internet connection to install its Day 1 patch. After installing that patch, EA says the game can be played offline. If you expect to install without internet access, account for that initial connection requirement.

Decision guide
- Choose Fallen Order first if you want Cal’s story from its beginning and prefer to experience the two games in story order.
- Start with Survivor if you want the later chapter, its evolved combat and traversal, and are comfortable entering a story that began five years earlier.
- Check your platform and PC hardware against EA’s current listing before buying, especially if you are choosing a particular edition or PC storefront.
