Choose Star Wars: Galactic Racer if you want high-speed ground racing; choose Star Wars: Squadrons if you want first-person starfighter combat. They share a setting, but not a style of play: one centers on racing events and runs-based progression, while the other puts you in a cockpit for dogfights and squadron battles.
Galactic Racer vs. Squadrons: what kind of game is each?
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a ground-racing game
Released worldwide on October 6, 2026, Galactic Racer is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Its Campaign, Scenario, and Arcade modes put you behind the controls of landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and podracers on circuits set across Star Wars locations. The core appeal is vehicle handling and competition, not space combat. Official game overview
Star Wars: Squadrons is a first-person space-combat game
Released in 2020, Squadrons is a cockpit-view starfighter game. Its solo campaign follows pilots from both the New Republic and the Empire, while multiplayer includes 5v5 Dogfights and Fleet Battles. You can customize starfighters and fight as part of a squadron. EA’s game page Lucasfilm’s launch announcement
How their campaigns and progression differ
Galactic Racer: choose events, build a run, and manage failure
Galactic Racer’s solo campaign lets you choose events and a route through the Galactic League. You select a starting vehicle, make upgrades, and decide which events to enter; too many crashes can end a tour, sending you back to regroup and start again. That runs-based structure makes the route and upgrade decisions part of the challenge, but it may frustrate players who want an uninterrupted story.

TechRadar’s October 2026 review recommends the game to fans of racing and roguelikes, while identifying the retry structure as a drawback for people primarily seeking the story. That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a universal verdict. The reviewer reported nearly 30 hours of play on base PS5; that experience should not be mistaken for a guarantee about every player’s experience. TechRadar review
Squadrons: follow a pilot story or join multiplayer battles
Squadrons offers a single-player campaign alongside multiplayer dogfights and Fleet Battles. The campaign alternates between New Republic and Imperial pilots, while multiplayer is the choice for players who want team-based space combat rather than racing. The official launch announcement described crossplay among Xbox One, PS4, PC, and VR; check current platform, service, and hardware compatibility before relying on that announced support for a particular setup.
