The Final Fantasy game in the shutdown announcement is FINAL FANTASY VII EVER CRISIS. Square Enix says its Japanese and global services will end on October 6, 2026, at 11:00 p.m. PDT. The announced time is more precise than “in 48 hours,” which depends on when that headline is read.
Which Final Fantasy game is shutting down?
It is FINAL FANTASY VII EVER CRISIS, Square Enix’s free-to-play RPG for iOS, Android, and Steam. The game launched on mobile on September 7, 2023, and on Steam on December 6, 2023, according to Square Enix’s end-of-service notice.
This is not the same as the FINAL FANTASY Portal App. Square Enix separately announced that the Portal App’s service will end on October 29, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. PDT; the Portal Site is stated to remain available. The Portal App notice concerns a different product.
When does Ever Crisis shut down?
Square Enix’s notice gives the service end time for both the Japanese and global versions as October 6, 2026, at 11:00 p.m. PDT. Keep the PDT timezone in mind when planning around the deadline; the notice states the time in PDT rather than offering a single local-time conversion for every player. Check Square Enix’s notice for any updates.

Producer Shoichi Ichikawa’s July 8, 2026 letter says Square Enix found it difficult to sustain the service level expected of a game bearing the FINAL FANTASY VII name. He pointed to balancing production costs with demand for character weapons and gear, while maintaining equipment visuals and gameplay balance that supports party diversity. That is the company’s stated explanation, not an independently reported financial analysis. Read the producer’s letter on the official site.
Ichikawa also described the decision as the result of careful consideration and discussions within the team. The official sources reviewed do not provide a player-count figure or a quantified financial result, so claims about a specific revenue or popularity threshold should not be treated as established reasons for the shutdown.

Can you use Red Crystals before shutdown?
Red Crystal sales ended on July 7, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. PDT. Square Enix says players could use existing Red Crystals until the service ends. Its notice says refunds for unused paid Red Crystals are available only to Taiwan residents, with further details to be provided in-game and on the official site. Refer to the official notice for refund information.

Events and story content
The end-of-service notice said in-game events would be released and updated until closure. In his July letter, Ichikawa said the final FINAL FANTASY VII saga chapter was planned for September 6, 2026, PDT, and that the team planned to bring back past content and run events during the final months. Those were plans announced in July; check a current official update for confirmation of any specific release or event.

Account information
Square Enix says account information will be deleted after the procedures associated with ending service are complete. The notice does not give an exact deletion date.
Offline access and delisting
The cited notice does not promise an offline mode or state when the game will be removed from app stores or Steam. Whether the game will remain downloadable or playable offline after service ends is therefore not established by that notice.
