First relaunch the current game build; then test mods, repair the named anti-cheat service, or investigate settings and memory only when those symptoms fit. These are targeted troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed cures.
Start by matching the crash to its cause
Note whether Squad closes before launch, while starting, during a match, or after a replay-related action. Record any exact error text and whether you recently installed a game update, changed settings, or subscribed to mods. Try one change at a time so you can tell whether it affected the problem.
Check Offworld Industries’ official release notes for a newer build before following older troubleshooting instructions. On September 17, 2026, Offworld published hotfix 10.5.6, which addressed a replay-generation crash and other crash-protection improvements; it also asked players to relaunch the game to download the build. Its 10.5.3 hotfix that day addressed some crashes with mods and Update 10.5 compatibility. Those notes describe specific fixes, not a fix for every crash.
Try these eight symptom-matched steps
1. Relaunch Squad and check the current build
Fully exit Squad and Steam, reopen Steam, and launch the game again so it can download any pending update. Check Offworld’s current release notes for a hotfix that matches your symptoms. A patch may address a known crash, but installing it does not establish that the patch caused or will resolve your particular problem.

2. Test a launch without mods
If Squad crashes at startup and you use mods, test the game without them before changing other settings. Offworld’s May 8, 2020 mod troubleshooting article advises unsubscribing from all Squad mods and removing the local workshopcontent393380 folder, then reinstalling mods individually if desired. This is older guidance: first test by disabling or unsubscribing from mods, and remove that local folder only if needed. Removing it affects downloaded Workshop content; it is not a general fix for crashes unrelated to mods.
Mod compatibility can change with game updates. Offworld’s September 17, 2026 10.5.3 notes specifically describe fixes for some mod-related crashes, including issues involving outdated Steam mods and mods with precompiled shader caches.

3. Use the EAC repair route only for an Easy Anti-Cheat error
If the displayed error names Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC), follow Offworld’s Squad-specific EAC troubleshooting. It includes repairing or reinstalling EAC, verifying Squad’s game files, and checking for conflicting Cheat Engine software. Do not apply anti-cheat repairs as a catch-all for crashes with no EAC error.
Epic’s general EAC troubleshooting guide also discusses EAC connectivity, Windows updates, Visual C++ Redistributables, system-file integrity, interfering background programs, and game files. These are general EAC suggestions, not Squad-specific diagnoses.

4. Use the EOS repair route only for an Epic Online Services error
If the message specifically identifies Epic Online Services (EOS), use Offworld’s EOS troubleshooting instructions for Squad. Its EOS uninstall and reinstall procedure is for EOS issues; it should not be treated as a general remedy for a game crash.
5. Clear cached Squad data if settings or cache may be involved
Offworld’s cache-clearing instructions offer an in-game clear-cache option or deletion of the local AppData SquadGame folder. Clearing this data resets configuration settings, including keybinds and video settings, so note your preferences first. Use this when corrupted cached settings are a plausible cause, not as the first step for every crash.

6. Check Offworld’s Discord guidance if Discord is implicated
If Squad fails to launch in connection with Discord, follow Offworld’s Discord troubleshooting article. The article is the source for the relevant setting or action; do not guess at a particular toggle based on the symptom alone.
7. Investigate pagefile settings only for a memory-related error
If Squad explicitly reports a memory or video-memory error, Offworld’s September 14, 2021 memory-error guidance recommends ensuring that the Windows pagefile is enabled and suggests 10 GB. Treat that figure as dated support advice, not a current universal Windows setting or a guaranteed fix. Avoid changing pagefile settings when the crash gives no memory-related indication.

These are listed compatibility specifications, not proof that a below-minimum component caused an individual crash. Diagnose the failure before considering a hardware upgrade.
8. Collect logs if the crash continues
If the steps that match your symptoms do not resolve the problem, gather logs for official support. Offworld’s log instructions locate them at C:UsersYourUsernameAppdataLocalSquadGame and say to zip the Saved folder before sending it to support. Replace YourUsername with your Windows account name.
