What the market was doing in early trading
At 10:19 a.m. ET, Reuters reported the Dow Jones Industrial Average at 51,110.61, down 0.13%; the S&P 500 at 7,753.05, up 0.39%; and the Nasdaq Composite at 27,360.28, up 0.62%. The report characterized the Nasdaq as reaching an all-time high. These are intraday figures, not closing values, and no separate official market-data series was checked. Why technology shares were supporting the indexes
Heavyweight technology stocks helped lead the advance. Reuters reported Nvidia up 1.1%, near the record it reached in the previous session, while Meta Platforms, Microsoft, and Tesla each gained more than 1% in the morning snapshot.
Reuters also cited optimism about corporate earnings and the prior week’s softer-than-expected U.S. jobs data. That jobs report was seen as reducing the likelihood of an October rate increase. These were explanations offered for the market’s move, not proof that any one factor caused it.

Goldman Sachs analysts expected year-on-year earnings growth of 9% for the median S&P 500 stock in the quarter, according to Reuters. That figure is an analyst forecast, not a reported earnings result; the underlying Goldman publication was not independently checked.
What was weighing on sentiment
The rally was unfolding alongside elevated bond yields and other sources of uncertainty. Reuters put the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield at 5.296% and described yields as near multi-year highs, amid concerns about government finances, heavy debt issuance, and elevated energy costs. Brent crude was near $100 a barrel, while geopolitical uncertainty added another risk.

Traders were reported to see an 80% chance that the Federal Reserve would hold rates steady in October, while a December increase remained largely priced in. Those figures describe market-implied expectations at the time of Reuters’ report; they are not Federal Reserve decisions.

Dennis Dick, founder and market structure analyst at Triple D Trading, said: “The AI and tech story continues to drive the bus … it is so strong that it can fight the headwind from higher interest rates,” Reuters reported.

Peter Andersen, founder of Andersen Capital Management, offered a more measured view of rising yields: “Many investors expect higher yields to derail the equity rally, but I think the market still has enough momentum to push through further increases in interest rates,” he said. Both remarks are attributed opinions, not guarantees about what markets will do.
