The Soyo SY-6BA+ IV is an ATX motherboard with an Intel 440BX chipset and a single Slot 1 processor interface. Its manual lists Pentium III, Pentium II, and Celeron support, 66 or 100 MHz front-side bus operation, four SDRAM DIMM sockets, and AGP, PCI, and ISA expansion. Identify the exact Soyo board
The board covered here is the SY-6BA+ IV, an ATX, single-Slot 1 motherboard. Soyo also had a separately documented SY-6BA+ model, so check the model printed on the board and the title of the manual before applying any specification. The two names are similar, but their documentation should not be treated as interchangeable.

Which CPUs and bus speeds does it support?
The manual names Intel Pentium III, Pentium II, and Celeron processors and documents 66 MHz and 100 MHz front-side bus operation. It says FSB selection is automatic according to the processor.

This is not confirmation that every Slot 1 CPU will work. For a particular processor, check its bus speed and voltage requirements against the exact board and BIOS revision, and account for the condition of the used board. The manual does not validate specific CPU part numbers or every possible processor-and-board combination.
What RAM does the SY-6BA+ IV use, and how much can it take?
The board has four DIMM sockets for SDRAM. Memory requirements depend on the processor’s bus speed and on whether the DIMMs are registered or unbuffered.

The manual describes different memory-speed requirements for 66 MHz and 100 MHz FSB operation. It also specifies installation-order and module-size constraints, so capacity alone is not enough to select a working set. If searching for parts, “PC100 SDRAM DIMM” is a useful category phrase—not a guarantee that a particular listing or module will work. Verify the DIMM’s speed, capacity, registered status, and population order against the manual and the actual board.

These are period-era interfaces. The manual establishes their presence, but does not establish compatibility with every modern adapter, drive, or accessory.

- Read the board marking. Confirm that it says SY-6BA+ IV, not SY-6BA+ or another similar model.
- Match the processor configuration. Check the CPU family, FSB, voltage, BIOS revision, and board condition; Slot 1 fit alone does not establish compatibility.
- Plan the DIMM set as a whole. Confirm SDRAM type, speed, module capacity, registered or unbuffered construction, and socket order. Do not combine registered and unbuffered memory.
- Inspect restoration hardware in place. The manual identifies a CPU fan connector and mentions a CPU retention set. Confirm that a replacement cooler, fan, or retention part physically matches the actual board; the manual does not approve modern accessory listings.
The manual is useful for identifying the board and its documented configuration limits. It does not establish current part availability, prices, the condition of an individual used board, or the compatibility of a specific marketplace listing.
