Sony announced the WF-1000XM6 on February 12, 2026, as the successor to its WF-1000XM5 true-wireless earbuds. Sony says the new model brings a 25% reduction in noise compared with the XM5, along with updates to call processing, connectivity, and fit. That percentage is Sony’s product claim, not an independent comparative test.
WF-1000XM6 has launched—not just surfaced in early details
The WF-1000XM6 is Sony’s next-generation 1000X true-wireless earbud. Sony’s announcement makes it a released product rather than an unreleased successor based on early details. The announcement date is February 12, 2026; Sony’s US support page separately displays a December 17, 2025 release-date field, which should not be confused with the public announcement date.

What Sony says changed from WF-1000XM5
Noise canceling
Sony attributes a claimed 25% noise reduction versus the WF-1000XM5 to a combination of the next-generation HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3e, the Integrated Processor V2, an adaptive noise-canceling optimizer, and four microphones on each earbud. The 25% figure is Sony’s manufacturer comparison, not a result from an independent test.

Calls
Sony says call quality is improved through a bone-conduction sensor, two microphones for AI beamforming, and AI noise reduction. These are manufacturer-described features; the announcement does not provide an independent call-quality measurement.
Bluetooth connectivity
Sony says the XM6 has an antenna 1.5 times larger than the previous model. This is a manufacturer specification claim. The announcement does not quantify a corresponding change in range or connection reliability.

Sound and fit
Sony describes the sound as co-created with sound engineers and says the earbuds have an ergonomically redesigned shape intended to improve comfort and stability. The announcement does not give a numerical comfort or fit comparison.
WF-1000XM6 versus WH-1000XM6: different types of headphones
The similar model names refer to different products. WF-1000XM6 is the in-ear, true-wireless earbud model; WH-1000XM6 is Sony’s over-ear headphone model. Sony’s WH-1000XM6 announcement concerns that separate over-ear line, not the WF earbud successor.
