It is not a room air conditioner and does not cool the whole body. Sony’s support page describes it as “a new type of wearable thermal device that can directly cool or warm the back of the neck.”
What is Sony’s REON POCKET?
REON POCKET is a wearable device designed to sit near the neck and transfer cooling or warmth directly to the contacted skin. The phrase “wearable air conditioner” is understandable shorthand, but it can mislead: the device does not lower a room’s temperature or blow chilled air over your whole body. Its effect is localized.
Sony’s 2026 lineup includes two models: the compact REON POCKET 6, positioned for commuting, and the REON POCKET PRO Plus, the flagship positioned for longer continuous use. Sony announced both on May 12, 2026.

Sony’s runtime figure is a manufacturer estimate, not a guarantee for every use pattern. Sony also cautions that battery capacity declines as batteries age. Its design descriptions do not, by themselves, establish a particular comfort level or performance outcome.

What Sony’s “up to 2°C lower” claim means
Sony Thermo Technology Inc. says the REON POCKET 6 can reach a cooling or warming surface temperature up to 2°C lower than the previous RNP-5 model in a specified strong-cooling comparison. Sony’s test conditions were a 35°C room, resting use, and the lowest cooling-surface temperature measured after 10 minutes in SMART COOL or SMART COOL⇔WARM. Sony says results vary with conditions and use.
This is a manufacturer test claim about the device’s surface temperature—not a claim that the room becomes 2°C cooler, not a whole-body temperature reduction, and not an independently verified result for everyday use.

Do you need a smartphone or REON POCKET TAG?
Smartphone app
The REON POCKET app is a dedicated Android and iOS smartphone app; Sony says it is not available for computers or other app stores. Sony’s U.S. app page lists English, Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese. Supported operating-system versions, devices, and regional access can change, so check Sony’s current app listing for your country before buying.
Using device buttons
Sony’s June 2026 app version 2.3.0 update says compatible RNPK-P1, RNPK-P1P, and RNPK-6 devices can use their buttons to adjust temperature preferences for SMART COOL/WARM and automatic COOL⇔WARM modes. This does not establish that every model has the same button controls; confirm compatibility for your exact device.

REON POCKET TAG
The TAG is a separate wearable sensor for ambient temperature and humidity. Pairing a compatible TAG with the device is required for automatic SMART COOL⇔WARM switching. Check the exact model compatibility and whether the TAG is included in the bundle you are considering.
What older REON POCKET owners should know
Sony’s May 9, 2025 notice says the updated app discontinued MY mode and FAN mode for RNP-5, RNP-4, RNP-3, RNP-2, RNP-1A, and RNP-1. Older reviews and product listings may describe those modes, so they may not reflect the current app experience for those models.

Sony also says an existing REON POCKET PRO owner can update the app and use the separately sold PRO Plus neckband to access the upgraded experience. Verify the exact neckband and device compatibility with Sony before purchasing.
