Snapchat’s AI Lenses can transform a Snap, create or edit an image from a text prompt, or generate a video—but “new AI Snapchat filter” does not identify one particular Lens. Snap has described several different experiences over time, and access can depend on the Lens and your subscription. Here’s how to find an AI Lens and what to expect from the main types Snap has announced.
What Snapchat means by an AI filter
Snapchat generally calls its camera effects Lenses. An AI Lens uses generative AI to alter or create images or video. The phrase “new AI Snapchat filter” alone does not identify a specific Lens, so the experience you see may differ from the ones described below.
Snap’s June 18, 2024 announcement introduced an early prototype of a real-time image model for augmented reality. Snap said, “This early prototype makes it possible to type in an idea for a transformation and generate vivid AR experiences in real time.” That announcement described a prototype, not proof that the same Lens is currently available to every user. How to find an AI Lens on Snapchat
Snapchat Support lists three ways to open an AI Lens: scan its Snapcode, open a Lens deep link, or search for it in Lens Explorer. The support guidance does not identify which Lens someone means by “the new AI filter,” so you may need the Lens name, code, or link to find a particular one. See Snapchat’s generative AI guidance.

Find the Imagine Lens
In its September 5, 2025 launch announcement, Snap said users could find the Imagine Lens near the front of the Lens Carousel or in the Exclusive category. Select it, edit the caption prompt or keep the preloaded prompt, then create the Snap. These are the launch instructions; current placement and availability may change. How the announced AI Lens types differ
Snap’s announcements describe distinct experiences, not one filter that does everything. The 2024 prototype focused on real-time AR transformation; Imagine creates or edits images from open-ended prompts; and the initial generative video Lenses produced clips after capture.

What to know about AI-generated results
Snapchat Support cautions: “Do not assume generative AI outputs are true or depict real events.” Generated images may not accurately preserve a person’s appearance or important attributes; Snap gives the example that someone who usually wears a headscarf could be depicted without one. Treat an output as a generated effect, not a reliable record of what happened or an accurate likeness.

- Look for AI indicators, but do not rely on them as a complete signal. Snap may use a sparkle icon, disclaimer, Context Card, or tool tip. Some generated images shared on Snapchat may have a Context Card; some saved or exported images may carry a Snap Ghost with sparkles watermark. Snap says not every generated image has a Context Card or watermark, and images made with non-Snap products may not be labeled.
- Protect sensitive information. Snap advises against submitting sensitive or private information and using another person’s image for generative imagery without permission.
- Report problematic content in the app. Many generative features include a flag or three-dot control for reporting.

What Snap says about prompts, images, and public content
Snap says generative features use the text and images a user provides to produce the requested result. Separately, it may use content posted publicly on Snapchat—including Spotlight, Public Stories, and Snap Map posts—to develop, train, and improve generative content models, potentially with automated and human review.

Snap describes an opt-out for future use of public content for model development at Settings → Privacy Control → Manage My Information. According to Snap, opting out does not undo training already completed, and other processing may continue under its privacy documentation. They refer to different products and dates. In 2024, Snap described a real-time image-model prototype and creator tools in Lens Studio. In March 2025, it announced three video-generating Lenses for Platinum subscribers. In September 2025, it introduced Imagine as an open-prompt image Lens, initially for Lens+ and Snapchat+ Platinum subscribers. A report or post calling any of these a “new AI filter” may be referring to one specific experience; the name or a screenshot is needed to tell which one.

Snap said in its September 2025 Imagine announcement that more than 400 million Snapchatters had engaged with Gen AI Lenses more than 4 billion times.
