Snap SPECS and Ray-Ban Meta are built for different jobs. SPECS is a standalone augmented-reality computer with see-through displays for placing digital content in your surroundings. Ray-Ban Meta glasses focus on taking photos and video, audio, calls, and AI features. Ray-Ban publishes camera specifications; the cited SPECS launch information does not provide comparable camera details, so it does not establish which takes better pictures.

What each pair of glasses is designed to do
Snap SPECS: spatial computing in your field of view
Snap describes SPECS as standalone AR glasses: the computing hardware is built into the glasses, with no separate puck or tether. Their see-through lenses let digital objects appear in the surrounding world. Snap highlights uses such as spatial directions, measurements, contextual assistance, screen casting, virtual displays, whiteboarding, education, and shared experiences. You interact with SPECS using your hands and voice. These are company-described capabilities, not independent evaluations of how well each feature works.
Ray-Ban Meta: capture, audio, and AI
Ray-Ban Meta’s cited models center on capturing photos and videos, listening through open-ear speakers, making calls, and using Meta AI features. Ray-Ban says using the glasses requires a compatible smartphone, the Meta AI app, wireless internet, and a Meta account. They are not a like-for-like alternative to SPECS’ see-through spatial display.

Camera: what the published specifications do and do not show
Ray-Ban Meta camera specifications
Ray-Ban lists a 12 MP ultrawide camera for Gen 3, with still capture at 3024 × 4032 pixels. Its listed video options include 720p+ at 120 fps, 1080p+ at 30 or 60 fps, and 3K Ultra HD at 30 fps. Ray-Ban also lists adjustable stabilization for 1080p+ video at 30 fps. These are manufacturer specifications; they do not independently establish image quality in everyday shooting.
Meta’s product page lists the Gen 2 Optics model with a 12 MP ultrawide camera and 3K Ultra HD video at 30 fps. Specifications can differ across the Ray-Ban Meta lineup, so check the exact model rather than assuming every frame has the same camera.

SPECS camera information
Snap’s cited June 2026 launch announcement focuses on SPECS’ AR display and does not give a directly comparable camera resolution or video specification. Its 51-degree figure is the display’s field of view, not a camera measurement. The available specifications therefore do not support a definitive camera-quality winner; that would require matched independent footage or clearly attributed hands-on testing.
Display, weight, and battery life
SPECS display and wearability figures
Snap specifies a liquid-crystal-on-silicon display with a 51-degree field of view and 16 million colors. The company says that field of view is equivalent to a 24-inch desktop display or a 115-inch cinema screen viewed from about 10 feet. Snap also reports 7-millisecond motion-to-photon latency, which it says was verified using advanced robotic measurement systems. These are Snap’s descriptions and reported measurements, not independent comparative test results.

Snap lists weights of 132 g for the 47 mm size and 136 g for the 52 mm size. That published weight is a practical consideration for anyone expecting to wear the glasses for extended periods, but it cannot by itself establish comfort: no matched comfort test is available here.
Battery estimates by model
Snap estimates up to four hours of mixed-use battery life for SPECS. The included charging case is described as providing four more charges, or up to 20 total mixed-use hours. Ray-Ban lists up to nine hours of use for Gen 3, plus up to 50 additional hours with a fully charged case. Meta lists Gen 2 at up to eight hours and up to 48 additional case hours; Blayzer and Scriber Optics are described as lasting over eight hours. These are manufacturer estimates with different models and stated conditions, not a head-to-head battery test.

Privacy and recording indicators
Snap says SPECS do not use facial recognition to identify people, do not continuously record or save audio, video, or photos, and illuminate or flash a prominent external LED when the wearer records. These are Snap’s claims about its product, not an independent privacy audit.
Meta says Ray-Ban Meta’s capture LED blinks while content is being recorded, has no off switch, and the camera is disabled if the LED is blocked or physically tampered with. These, too, are company statements rather than independent verification.

Availability, pricing, and accessories
Snap SPECS purchase status
Snap’s June 16, 2026 announcement said SPECS were available to pre-order for $2,195 with a $200 refundable deposit, with shipping expected in fall 2026 in the United States, United Kingdom, and France. In a September 16, 2026 update, Snap continued to describe pre-orders and expected shipping later in fall; it also announced in-person demos at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles starting October 1. Those announcements do not confirm that shipments have begun. Check Snap’s current listing for the latest ordering terms and delivery status.
Snap also announced a SPECS Charging Case with Cellular. Its September update described four additional charges and cellular connectivity through participating carriers. In the US, Snap named Verizon and listed a $2,395 SPECS Connected Case bundle, with data plans from $10 per month for Verizon customers and $20 per month for non-Verizon customers. These are company-announced prices and terms that may change; verify them before purchase.
Ray-Ban Meta models and supported markets
Ray-Ban’s US product page lists Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, Ray-Ban Meta Audio, Gen 2 Optics, Gen 2, and Meta Ray-Ban Display. Its FAQ says Ray-Ban Meta purchases are supported in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Australia; Meta also serves select additional markets. Availability varies by model and location, so check the product page for your country.
Prescription fit and case compatibility
Meta describes the Gen 2 Blayzer and Scriber Optics as designed for prescription wearers, with adjustable temple tips, interchangeable nose pads, and over-extension hinges. Meta says prescription lenses fitted after purchase should be installed by a certified retailer to preserve the manufacturer warranty.
Recommended Free Tools
Most charging cases and USB-C cables are compatible with Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, according to Meta, but Blayzer and Scriber Optics are not compatible with the current Ray-Ban Meta charging case. Confirm compatibility for the exact frame before buying accessories.
Quick Recap
Which should you choose?
- Choose SPECS if your priority is a see-through AR display, spatial content, or hands-and-voice interaction, and you are willing to consider a heavier, display-focused device with the announced price and availability terms.
- Choose Ray-Ban Meta if you want glasses centered on camera capture, audio, calls, and AI features, and you are comfortable using a compatible phone, Meta AI app, wireless internet, and Meta account.
- If camera quality is decisive, compare the specific Ray-Ban model’s published camera formats and seek comparable independent footage. The available SPECS launch material does not give enough camera information to rank the products fairly.
- If wearability is decisive, compare the SPECS published weight with the exact Ray-Ban frame you are considering and try them on if possible; the available figures do not establish a comfort winner.
