To send RFID tag events from a Bharat Pi to the cloud, connect a compatible RFID reader to the board, read and format each tag locally, then transmit the event over Wi-Fi to a cloud service. Bharat Pi’s setup instructions describe an ESP32 Wroom-based board, so the Arduino-ESP32 core is the relevant starting point in Arduino IDE. The exact board revision, RFID reader, tag standard, wiring, and cloud destination must be confirmed for your build; the available documentation does not specify a tested combination.
What you need to decide before building
“RFID” does not identify one universal reader or tag system. Choose the actual components and destination before following wiring diagrams or copying example code: those details determine the electrical connections, compatible library, and message format.
- Board: Confirm the Bharat Pi model and revision, then use its matching pinout and board instructions.
- Reader and tags: Check that the reader supports the tags you have, and verify its interface, supply voltage, logic levels, and pin assignments.
- Cloud destination: Decide whether to use Arduino Cloud or another service. The destination determines how the device authenticates and where the event is stored or displayed.
- Event contents: Decide what the cloud needs to receive, such as a tag identifier and event time. Avoid sending personal or sensitive data unless the application requires it and you have an appropriate way to protect it.
Do not assume a commonly used module, such as an MFRC522, is compatible with your particular board revision or tag set without checking the relevant specifications.
Set up Bharat Pi in Arduino IDE
Bharat Pi’s vendor setup instructions describe an ESP32 Wroom microcontroller and direct users to install ESP32 board support through Arduino IDE’s Boards Manager. Espressif’s Arduino-ESP32 documentation also covers Arduino IDE integration and the Boards Manager installation route. The documented core is for ESP32-family chips; it should not be treated as generic support for unrelated microcontrollers.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Identify your board revision. Check the board’s own documentation for its pinout and the appropriate Arduino board profile. The vendor setup information does not establish one profile for every possible revision, so do not choose a menu entry by guesswork.
- Install ESP32 board support. In Arduino IDE, use Boards Manager to install the ESP32 platform following the current Bharat Pi or Espressif instructions.
- Select the board and port. Choose the profile indicated for your revision, connect the board, and select the serial port that appears for it.
- Check basic communication. Upload a minimal sketch before adding RFID or cloud code. If the board is not detected or upload fails, resolve the board selection, port, cable, and upload setup first.
Connect and verify the RFID reader
Use the pinout for your exact Bharat Pi revision and the documentation for your exact reader. Match the reader’s required power and logic levels to the board, then connect the interface pins as specified by the relevant documentation. The available setup details do not establish a reader model, pin mapping, voltage arrangement, or tag frequency, so a universal wiring table would be misleading.
- Confirm that the tags and reader use a compatible frequency and protocol.
- Check the reader’s interface and electrical requirements against the Bharat Pi documentation.
- Install a library that supports both the selected reader and the ESP32 Arduino core.
- Upload a reader example or a small test sketch and confirm that a tag read appears locally, such as in the Serial Monitor.
Keep this local check separate from cloud setup. If the reader cannot produce a local read, troubleshoot its wiring, power, pin assignments, tag compatibility, and library before adding network code.

Choose how to send events to the cloud
Arduino Cloud is one documented option for compatible ESP32 devices, not a requirement imposed by Bharat Pi or by RFID. Its setup flow includes provisioning the device, associating it with a Thing, and uploading a sketch. Arduino Cloud also documents Cloud Variables, dashboards and widgets, triggers, and APIs. Confirm that your particular device is supported and follow the current onboarding instructions for the account and platform.
For any cloud destination, the event path is:
- Read: The RFID reader reports a tag to the ESP32.
- Validate and format: The sketch checks the read and prepares the event fields your application needs.
- Transmit: The board sends the event over Wi-Fi using the authentication method required by the selected service.
- Receive and use: The cloud stores, displays, or routes the event according to the configuration you chose.
This is an implementation outline, not a claim that a specific reader, sketch, or cloud endpoint has been tested with every Bharat Pi revision. If you select a service other than Arduino Cloud, consult its device-authentication and data-ingestion documentation rather than assuming Arduino Cloud’s setup steps apply.

Provision the device and protect credentials
For compatible ESP32 devices, Arduino’s onboarding guidance provides a Device ID and secret key. Its setup guidance warns that a lost secret key cannot be recovered. Arduino’s network-credentials instructions also describe configuring the Wi-Fi SSID and password and using the secret key for ESP32/ESP8266 onboarding.
- Save the issued secret key securely when it is created; do not publish it in a sketch, repository, screenshot, or support post.
- Use placeholders in code examples and redact credentials from logs or screenshots.
- Keep Wi-Fi credentials private as well. Restrict access to any project files or account settings that contain them.
- If a key is lost, follow the platform’s current device-management and onboarding guidance; do not assume the original key can be retrieved.
Once provisioned, complete the remaining platform steps: associate the device with a Thing where required, configure the variables or event destination, and upload the sketch. Provisioning by itself does not send RFID data to a cloud view.

Test the complete path one stage at a time
Check each boundary in order so a failure is easier to locate:
- Board: Arduino IDE detects the expected serial port and can upload a minimal sketch.
- Reader: The selected library communicates with the reader, and a tag produces a local read.
- Network: The board connects to the configured Wi-Fi network.
- Cloud provisioning: The device appears online in the chosen service, with its Thing or equivalent configuration in place.
- Event delivery: A sample tag event appears in the cloud destination you configured.
If local RFID reads work but the event is absent from the cloud, focus on network connectivity, credentials, device association, sketch configuration, and the service’s event destination. If the device is online but the cloud does not show the expected field, compare the sketch’s event format with the cloud variable or endpoint configuration.

What to verify before expanding the project
After a single event makes the full trip from tag to cloud, test the behavior your application actually needs: for example, repeated reads, missing Wi-Fi, or an unrecognized tag. Decide how the sketch should respond before relying on it for access decisions, attendance records, or other consequential uses. A cloud event is useful only if the system handles connectivity loss and protects the data and credentials involved.
