The Mississippi healthcare provider behind the “900k impacted” headline is Singing River Health System (SRHS), including its wholly owned subsidiary Singing River Gulfport. A Maine Attorney General filing reports that 895,204 people were affected—not exactly 900,000. If you received a notice, use the steps below to check your accounts and find the incident-specific help described in your letter.
What happened in the Singing River data breach?
Singing River Health System says it was hit by ransomware on August 19, 2023. The organization’s investigation identified unauthorized access to its environment between August 16 and August 18. Separately, Maine’s Attorney General filing classifies the event as an external system breach involving hacking, lists August 19 as the breach date, and records December 18, 2023 as the discovery date. These are distinct dates reported by the provider and the state filing.
The filing reports 895,204 people affected, including 25 Maine residents. The provider’s notice is dated May 13, 2024, and the filing says written notifications began that day. SecurityWeek reported that the estimate had risen from an earlier 252,890 to 895,204.

The notice does not establish that every person’s information included every category. Singing River said it had no indication or evidence of misuse when it issued the notice. That statement is not a guarantee that misuse did not occur or cannot occur later.
How can you tell whether your information was affected?
The aggregate count in Maine’s filing cannot identify whether a particular person was included. Check any notice you received from Singing River for the information categories tied to your case and for an access code to the offered services. If you did not receive a notice but need to ask about your status, use the assistance contact information in a current Singing River notice or contact the health system through its official channels.

What should you do after receiving a notice?
Review financial and health-related records
Singing River recommends reviewing financial accounts, explanations of benefits, and credit reports for activity you do not recognize. Report suspicious transactions or claims promptly to the bank, provider, insurer, or other institution involved. Keep copies of the notice and records of any reports you make.

Consider a fraud alert or credit freeze
The notice describes contacting credit bureaus about free credit reports, fraud alerts, and security freezes. It says a freeze is free under federal law, but warns that it can delay or interfere with applications for new credit. The notice also describes an initial one-year fraud alert and an extended seven-year alert for identity-theft victims. These are the notice’s descriptions; check current official resources before relying on legal details or choosing an option.
Use the notice-linked support offer if it is still available
Singing River said eligible recipients could enroll in complimentary credit-monitoring and identity-restoration services with the access code in their notice. SecurityWeek summarized the offer as 12 months of credit monitoring in 2024. The offer’s availability in October 2026 is not established here, so check the terms and enrollment instructions in your own letter before submitting information.

What if a notice has the wrong name or address?
Singing River reported that some letters sent in January 2024 had mismatched recipient names and addresses. The health system said it was correcting and reissuing those letters and that affected households were correctly targeted. If the notice you received appears to be addressed to someone else, do not assume it confirms that person’s information was exposed; verify the details with Singing River using contact information from an official notice or the health system’s official channels.
