SimSpace announced a $45 million equity raise led by L2 Point Management on December 19, 2023. The company said it would use the investment to support growth and entry into new geographies, but it did not publish a breakdown of how the money would be spent. This is a 2023 financing announcement, not a new 2026 funding event.

What happened in SimSpace’s $45 million financing?

SimSpace announced the $45 million equity raise, with L2 Point Management leading the investment. SimSpace also said it had raised $70 million in total capital during the year preceding the announcement. That $70 million is the company’s stated year-total, not the size of this single raise. SimSpace’s announcement describes the round as equity but does not disclose valuation, ownership terms, or other deal details.

William “Hutch” Hutchison, SimSpace CEO, said the investment would support entry into new markets around the world and accelerate customer acquisition. The announcement did not identify specific countries or report later expansion outcomes.

What does SimSpace do?

SimSpace develops cyber-range technology for organizations including enterprises, government bodies, and critical infrastructure operators. A cyber range is a simulated technology and networking environment where security teams can practice responding to cyber incidents and test defensive tools without deliberately exercising them in live production systems.

SimSpace’s Cyber Force Platform offers predefined or customized simulations for activities such as team training, defensive-tool stress testing, audit and governance preparation, and broader cyber-readiness work. CEO Hutchison described training as taking place outside a company’s network, allowing teams to test responses without disrupting production operations. These descriptions reflect the company’s stated product capabilities, not independent validation of platform performance. TechCrunch’s December 2023 report covered the financing and platform context.

How did SimSpace say it would use the investment?

The company described growth and entry into new geographies as objectives. It did not allocate the proceeds among product development, hiring, sales, infrastructure, or other categories. There is therefore no public basis in the announcement to say how much went to any one purpose or which markets were subsequently entered.

What performance figures did the company cite?

In its December 2023 release, SimSpace claimed an average 30% reduction in cyber operational costs and a 40% reduction in breaches. The release did not provide a methodology or independent validation for either figure, so they should be read as company claims rather than established results. The release also cited an estimate of $9.5 trillion in global financial damages from cyberattacks in 2024, attributing it to Cybersecurity Ventures; that underlying estimate is not independently assessed here.

Hutchison also had a reported goal of reaching $50 million in annual recurring revenue by the end of fiscal year 2023. It was a forward-looking target reported by TechCrunch and reproduced on the SimSpace site, not a verified revenue result. SimSpace’s press release and TechCrunch’s report provide the historical context.

What should organizations assess when comparing cyber ranges?

The financing announcement does not establish how SimSpace compares with other providers. Buyers evaluating cyber-range platforms can compare the following practical factors:

  • Environment fidelity and customization: whether simulations can represent the organization’s systems, workflows, and threat scenarios closely enough for its intended exercises.
  • Isolation from production: how the provider separates exercises from operational networks and what safeguards govern connectivity, data, and reset procedures.
  • Scenario coverage: whether the range supports the team’s needs, from incident-response training to testing defensive tools and preparing for audits.
  • Performance reporting: what metrics are collected, how they are calculated, and whether results can be independently checked or compared over time.
  • Sector and jurisdiction fit: whether the service can meet the organization’s regulatory, data-handling, and operational requirements.
  • Procurement access: what contracting routes, implementation arrangements, and support channels are available for the buyer’s sector.

SimSpace’s press-release index lists a February 29, 2024 partnership with Carahsoft concerning public-sector security-improvement solutions. That is historical channel context, not confirmation of the partnership’s current status or availability. SimSpace’s press-release index contains the listing.
