If Silent Hill: Townfall is stuttering on PC, first install the official update that addresses gameplay stuttering caused by shader precompilation, then confirm the game is running version v1.4.153829. If frame rate remains low, compare your PC with the published requirements and test graphics changes one at a time. The update targets a named stutter issue; it is not a guarantee that every stutter or low-FPS problem is fixed.

1. Apply the official stuttering update

In a Steam Community notice dated September 30, 2026, the SILENT HILL: Townfall team said the update “Reduced gameplay stuttering caused by shader precompilation issues.” The notice asks players to check for version v1.4.153829, displayed in the lower-right corner of the main menu. This is the first check for the shader-precompilation stutter described in the notice; it does not document a fix for every performance problem. Read the official Steam update notice.

  1. Exit Townfall completely.
  2. Make sure Steam is connected to the internet.
  3. If the game was already running, restart the Steam app so it can pick up the update.
  4. Launch the game and check the version in the lower-right corner of the main menu. Confirm that it reads v1.4.153829.

If the displayed version is different, let Steam finish any pending update and check again. Avoid deleting shader caches or editing configuration files as a first step: the official notice does not recommend those actions.

2. Work out whether the problem is stuttering or low FPS

These symptoms can have different causes, so note what you actually see before changing settings:

  • Stuttering: brief interruptions or uneven motion, sometimes recurring when gameplay encounters shader-precompilation work. The September 30 notice specifically addresses this type of stutter.
  • Low FPS: persistently slow or less-fluid motion. The notice does not identify a general low-FPS fix, so check hardware and rendering load separately.

For a useful comparison, use the same scene and graphics settings before and after each change. Change one setting at a time and note whether the symptom improves. This is standard PC troubleshooting, not a developer-validated Townfall-specific remedy.

3. Compare your PC with the published requirements

The Steam and Epic listings publish minimum and recommended configurations. Their frame-rate figures are targets, not independently measured benchmarks or guarantees for every PC.

Specification Minimum listing Recommended listing
Performance target Low settings, 1080p, 30fps (Steam listing, accessed 2026) High settings, 4K, 30fps using DLSS, FSR, or TSR Balanced mode (Steam listing, accessed 2026)
Operating system Windows 11 x64 Windows 11 x64
Processor AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel Core i7-8700K AMD Ryzen 7 5700X or Intel Core i7-9700K
Memory 16 GB RAM 32 GB RAM
Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super or AMD Radeon RX 6600 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT
DirectX DirectX 12 DirectX 12
Storage 75 GB on Steam; Epic specifies an SSD 75 GB on Steam; Epic specifies NVMe

Steam lists the processor, memory, graphics, DirectX, and storage targets on its Townfall store page; Epic identifies the SSD requirement at minimum and NVMe for its recommended specification on the Epic Games Store listing. Konami gives September 24, 2026 as the release date, while Steam lists September 23; that one-day difference is between storefront/publisher listings and does not change the troubleshooting steps.

Meeting the minimum specification does not establish that shader stuttering is resolved, and meeting the recommended specification does not promise a particular frame rate on an individual PC. The listed recommended 4K target explicitly relies on an upscaler set to Balanced mode.

4. Test graphics load with reversible changes

If the game is up to date and frame rate remains low, test whether reducing rendering load changes the symptom. These are controlled diagnostic steps, not fixes confirmed by the developer:

  1. Record the current resolution, graphics preset, and any upscaling mode.
  2. Lower the resolution or graphics preset, then replay the same scene.
  3. If an upscaler is available in the game, test a listed option—DLSS, FSR, or TSR—and compare at the same scene and settings otherwise.
  4. Restore any change that does not help, and avoid changing several settings at once so you can identify what affected performance.

Use the listing’s targets as context: the minimum target is Low at 1080p/30fps, while the recommended target is High at 4K/30fps with DLSS, FSR, or TSR Balanced. They are not a promise that every system at or above those parts will deliver those results in every scene.

5. When the problem continues

If the update is installed and controlled settings tests do not resolve the issue, collect the details that distinguish a game-specific stutter from a system-load problem before contacting support:

  • The version shown on the main menu.
  • Your CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows version, and whether the game is installed on SSD or NVMe storage.
  • The scene and settings where the issue occurs, and whether it is brief, repeatable stutter or continuously low frame rate.
  • Which single settings changes you tested and what happened.

Use the Steam technical-issue support route for Townfall to seek further help. The available official update notice does not validate configuration edits, driver flags, or a hardware purchase as universal fixes. Consider an upgrade only if your system falls below the published requirements and your own diagnosis supports that conclusion; the shader-precompilation update itself is a software fix.
