Spoiler warning: This walkthrough explains how your actions affect the ending. For an Abandoned run, take a combat-heavy approach as Simon: kill enemies you encounter where practical, and avoid optional Clues and Documents. That is a guide-reported strategy, not a guaranteed formula; the developers have not published an exact score threshold.

How Townfall determines the Abandoned ending

There is no single choice at the end that selects Abandoned. In a PlayStation.Blog interview published July 30, 2026, Jon McKellan, writer and director at Screen Burn Interactive, said: “The endings in Silent Hill: Townfall aren’t determined by a simple binary choice at the end. Instead, the culmination of the player’s actions throughout their playthrough dictates which ending they reach.” The interview confirms the broad rule, but does not give an ending-score formula. Read the developer interview on PlayStation.Blog.

PowerPyx describes Abandoned as the below-zero ending and recommends killing all possible enemies as Simon. Its guide reports that this pushes the ending score in a negative direction. Treat that as practical walkthrough advice rather than an official requirement: no fixed kill count or universally confirmed threshold is available. See PowerPyx’s ending guide.

Abandoned route: step by step

  1. Start a run or choose an early save. If you are changing course after another ending, use a save from earlier in the story where possible. A save immediately before the final boss may not preserve the opportunity to change actions from earlier sections.
  2. Fight enemies as Simon. Kill enemies you encounter when practical rather than prioritizing avoidance. PowerPyx recommends killing all possible enemies as Simon, but it does not establish a required number of kills.
  3. Do not take optional collectible detours. Pick up what is needed to solve puzzles and progress, but optional Clues and Documents are not required for the Abandoned strategy described by PowerPyx. These pickups contribute to Discoveries; its collectibles guide lists 85 in total and warns that earlier areas cannot be revisited as the story advances. See the Clues and Documents guide.
  4. Continue through the story and check the result. Finish the remaining sections and see which ending you receive. If it is not Abandoned, reload an earlier save and adjust the actions that save still allows you to change. A late reload cannot necessarily rewrite the full playthrough.

What to prioritize—and what is not confirmed

Decision Abandoned-oriented approach What is established
Combat or avoidance Kill enemies encountered as Simon where practical. PowerPyx recommends killing all possible enemies; the developers have not stated a required kill count.
Discoveries Skip optional Clues and Documents; collect progression items needed for puzzles. PowerPyx says Clues and Documents contribute to Discoveries and lists 85 total. The pickups can be missed as areas become inaccessible.
Final choice Do not expect a single ending-selection prompt. The developers say actions throughout the playthrough determine the ending.
Save point Keep an earlier manual save if you may want to retry. PowerPyx identifies a save before the Clamp Release sequence as useful for ending attempts; broader run adjustments may require an earlier point.

Some unofficial guides describe weighted score factors such as Discoveries, qualifying Simon kills, Cannula refills, and Zoe treatment mistakes, but they do not establish a reproducible universal threshold. Do not rely on a simple “kills greater than discoveries” rule or a fixed 60-kill trigger as settled fact.
