Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteBuy now if a laptop available today meets your needs at a price you can accept and waiting would disrupt work, study, or everyday use. Wait if you can comfortably defer and have a specific upcoming feature, model, or buying window in mind that would materially improve your experience. Don’t wait simply because a newer generation is on the horizon: there will always be another release, and a new chip name alone does not prove a better fit.
Start with the cost of waiting
Buy now when your current laptop is holding you back
If your laptop is broken, unreliable, too slow for required work, or preventing you from studying effectively, the cost of delay may outweigh the uncertain benefit of a future model. The practical question is not whether a newer laptop might arrive, but whether waiting would make your next few weeks or months meaningfully harder.
Waiting is easier when the purchase is optional
If your current machine works well and you can postpone the purchase without inconvenience, waiting gives you time to compare releases and offers. That is a reasonable choice, but it is not a guarantee of a lower price: future discounts and post-launch price changes are uncertain.
Wait for a named benefit, not just a newer generation
Before delaying, write down what you expect the next laptop to do better. It might be a particular feature, compatibility with an application or accessory, a different form factor, more graphics capability, or stronger sustained performance for a demanding workload. Then ask whether that change matters enough to your actual use to justify the delay.

A 2026 announcement can show that a product family exists without proving that a particular laptop is in stock where you live, or that it will suit your needs. Intel said Core Series 3-powered consumer and commercial systems would be available through OEM partners starting April 16, 2026, and directs buyers to check system-specific availability with those partners: Intel’s Core Series 3 launch announcement. Microsoft’s January CES roundup covered new designs and platforms including Intel Core Ultra Series 3 and Snapdragon X2 Elite, but an announcement does not establish availability in every region: Microsoft’s CES 2026 roundup.
Lenovo’s March 2, 2026 announcement gave expected availability of March for the Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition and June for the IdeaPad Slim 5i Ultra. Those were the manufacturer’s stated windows, not guarantees of current local stock or universal retail prices: Lenovo’s MWC 2026 announcement.

Treat rumors as possibilities, not a release plan
If your reason for waiting is a rumored redesign, distinguish the rumor from a confirmed product and date. For example, a July 2026 Macworld guide discussed a rumored touchscreen MacBook Pro redesign as a possible reason for some buyers to wait; the guide did not establish that Apple had confirmed the redesign or its timing: Macworld’s MacBook Pro buying guide.
Compare the actual laptop options for your workload
Compare a laptop available now with the specific future option you are considering. Judge the whole system rather than ranking machines by one specification or processor generation. Give more weight to the factors that affect your use: portability and tested battery performance matter to many students and frequent travelers, while gaming or creative work may make graphics capability, cooling, and sustained performance more important.

| What to compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Workload fit and application compatibility | A fast machine is not useful if it cannot run the applications or accessories you rely on. |
| Operating system | Check that it suits your software, workflow, and preferences. |
| Sustained CPU and GPU performance | Relevant for workloads such as gaming or extended creative tasks; short headline claims alone may not describe performance over time. |
| Battery life in relevant independent tests | Tested results give more useful context than a manufacturer claim alone. Tom’s Guide reported 15 hours 28 minutes of tested battery life for its reviewed MacBook Air M5 configuration in 2026; that result reflects its test and configuration, not a guarantee for every user. |
| Portability, screen, and ports | Consider the laptop’s size and display alongside the connections your devices and work require. |
| Memory, storage, and upgradeability or repairability | Check whether the configuration can meet your needs over time and whether parts can be upgraded or repaired. |
| Warranty, support, and total price | Compare the exact configuration and the terms that apply to your purchase, not just a starting price or model name. |
Intel’s Core Series 3 announcement claimed “up to 47% better single thread performance,” “up to 41% better multi thread performance,” and “up to 2.8x better GPU AI performance” versus a five-year-old PC. These are Intel’s published comparisons, not independent benchmark results or a promise that every laptop or workload will improve by those amounts: Intel’s stated Core Series 3 comparisons.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check release status and the exact price before deciding
- Identify the exact model and configuration. Compare the memory, storage, display, processor, and other features you would actually buy.
- Verify its status where you live. Distinguish an announcement or expected availability window from a preorder and from a model that is currently in stock at a retailer serving your location. Manufacturer schedules and stock can vary by region and change.
- Compare the exact deal available today. Use the current price for the configuration you want, not a starting price for a different version. If you can comfortably wait for a seasonal sale, that may be a reason to defer, but neither a discount nor a lower post-launch price is guaranteed.
- Set a reason and a stopping point for waiting. Decide what release, feature, or price opportunity you are waiting for and when you will reassess. Without a specific trigger, waiting can turn into an open-ended search for a better next generation.
There is no general figure that predicts how much an unspecified buyer will save by waiting. Your decision depends on your local stock, budget, workload, the exact configuration’s price today, and the personal cost of delaying.

Use a simple buy-now-or-wait test
- Buy now if an available laptop fits your real needs, the price is acceptable, and waiting would disrupt work, study, or daily use.
- Wait if your current machine remains adequate, you can defer without significant inconvenience, and a specific upcoming benefit is valuable enough to justify the delay.
- Reconsider if the reason to wait is only a vague hope for a newer generation or a lower price. Check availability and the exact deal again rather than assuming either outcome.
