Killing him while he is still cursed only makes him return. You can break the curse with the Cursed Fang or by feeding him his own flesh; either way, you can still choose to fight him afterward.
Why killing Morkvarg once does not work
In the Skellige quest In Wolf’s Clothing, Morkvarg is cursed. If you defeat him while the curse is active, he returns, so an ordinary fight does not resolve the encounter permanently. The practical choice is not simply whether to kill him: first decide how to lift the curse, then decide whether to spare him.
Two ways to lift Morkvarg’s curse

These are the two routes walkthroughs describe, but they do not establish every possible variation in Einar’s dialogue or every version-specific outcome. For the most straightforward permanent resolution, lift the curse before killing Morkvarg.
What to do if you want the reward conversation
- Lift the curse using the Cursed Fang.
- When the dialogue allows it, choose the option commonly worded “My reward first.”
- Follow the lead the conversation gives you before deciding whether to fight Morkvarg.
The reward lead is associated with a loanshark in Novigrad, but the available walkthroughs do not establish a universal reward total or package. If you care about preserving this conversation, use the fang route rather than assuming a later kill will provide the same opportunity.

Should you spare him after lifting the curse?
That is a separate choice from breaking the curse. The guides describe a further opportunity to fight Morkvarg after the curse is lifted, so choosing a curse-removal route does not force Geralt to spare him. If your goal is a permanent end to the encounter, lift the curse and then kill him; if you prefer, you can leave him alive after the curse is removed.

A quest guide warns that In Wolf’s Clothing can become stuck. The available walkthroughs do not establish that either route is bug-proof across all versions, so avoid treating any particular sequence as guaranteed to work in every playthrough.
