Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Many models are already relatively close to their eventual low before then. If you need a TV now, compare the exact model’s price history, competing offers, stock, and the retailer’s return and price-match terms before buying.
Is Black Friday a good time to buy a TV?
Generally, yes: Black Friday is a strong TV-shopping period. But there is no reliable rule that every model will be cheaper that day, or that waiting will produce a dramatic discount. Tom’s Guide reports that many TVs are already relatively close to their eventual lowest price before Black Friday, while prices vary by model. RTINGS likewise says TVs are usually close to their lows by then. Tom’s Guide’s buying-timing analysis and RTINGS’ TV buying guide support treating the event as an opportunity to compare, not a guaranteed price floor.
What changes if you wait?
Potential savings depend on the exact TV
There is no broadly representative 2026 estimate in the available reporting for how much shoppers save by waiting. Tom’s Guide Senior Editor for TVs Michael Desjardin offers “probably a few hundred bucks” as a “not-so-scientific, vibes-based answer,” not as a measured average. His example is a 65-inch LG C5 that he recorded at $1,699 in late September 2025 and $1,399 around Black Friday. That is one model’s historical price comparison, not a forecast for 2026 or a promise that another TV will fall by the same amount.
Some models or sizes may sell out
Waiting can mean losing access to the particular model or screen size you want. RTINGS notes that older models are discontinued and replaced, and that specific sizes can sell out. This matters most when you have narrowed your choice to one set rather than being flexible about alternatives.

Model releases affect sale timing
RTINGS says most brands release most new TV models in spring. Retailers may discount previous-generation sets as they clear inventory, while newer models typically begin at higher prices. So a good price on an older model may appear before Black Friday; waiting for the holiday does not necessarily improve it.
How to tell whether a TV sale is genuinely good
- Match the exact model and size. Prices can differ by screen size and model variant, so compare like with like.
- Look at price history. A current price near the model’s recent lows may be worthwhile even if it is not labeled a Black Friday deal.
- Compare alternatives you would actually buy. Consider the picture quality and features you need, not just the advertised discount.
- Do not rely on the crossed-out price alone. Tom’s Guide notes that some Black Friday-specific models may debut already on sale, and a reference “was” price may not reflect a price at which the product was regularly sold.
- Check the retailer’s terms. Ask whether a price-match policy is available, what its time window is, and whether the TV and competing offer qualify. Consumer Reports recommends asking about a 30-day price-match policy, but eligibility depends on the retailer and item.
Consumer Reports’ 2026 guide lists examples such as 55-inch 4K TVs starting as low as $300 and 65-inch 4K models starting around $450. Those are guide figures, not live quotes or confirmation of current stock. Check the exact listing and seller before treating any price as available.

Buy now or wait? Use this decision guide
| Your situation | Practical choice | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Your current TV works and your timing is flexible. | Wait and monitor the exact model through Black Friday. | Price history, actual sale price, model and size, and stock. |
| You need a TV now, or a current offer is already attractive. | Buy now if the price and set meet your needs. | Competing offers and the retailer’s return and price-match terms. |
| You want one specific older model or size. | Weigh the possible discount against the risk of it selling out. | Availability and whether acceptable alternatives exist. |
| The advertised discount looks unusually large. | Verify the deal before using the discount as a reason to buy. | Recent prices and whether the reference price is meaningful. |
A simple plan if you decide to wait
- Choose the exact model and screen size. Add a small number of alternatives only if you would genuinely consider buying them.
- Record the current price and check its recent history. This gives you a baseline for judging a Black Friday offer.
- Check stock and seller details as the sale approaches. A price is useful only if the correct model and size are available from a seller you are willing to use.
- Read the return and price-match policies before checkout. Confirm the applicable window, exclusions, and any conditions rather than assuming a later lower price will be matched.
- Compare the final offer with your baseline and alternatives. Decide based on the actual price and the TV’s features, not the sale label or claimed markdown.
