Is the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless worth it?
It is a serious premium option if you value long claimed battery life, battery serviceability, broad Bluetooth codec support and the ability to personalize the sound. The case is less straightforward if you want a guaranteed great sound straight out of the box or are choosing purely on a review’s praise: those are subjective judgments, and the available reviews do not establish controlled head-to-head test results against rivals.
The MOMENTUM 5 Wireless was announced in May 2026. Sennheiser presents it as a refinement of its predecessor rather than a complete redesign: it retains the 42 mm dynamic transducer while adding or emphasizing adaptive ANC, more microphones, spatial audio with head tracking, app-based sound personalization and an exchangeable battery. What changes could matter in daily use?
Noise cancellation and calls
Sennheiser specifies hybrid adaptive noise cancellation and four microphones per side, with beamforming for noise reduction. Its launch announcement says voice-chatter reduction is up to three times more effective than before; that is the company’s comparison, not an independently verified call-quality result. For a buyer, the practical questions are whether the ANC suits the places they travel and whether their voice remains clear in the noisy settings where they take calls.

Spatial audio and head tracking
Sennheiser described Dolby Atmos with head tracking as available through a day-one firmware update. Listening also depends on an Atmos-enabled source device and supported content, so ownership of the headphones alone does not guarantee that every app or device will provide the feature. Sound personalization
The headphones work with Sennheiser Smart Control Plus for iOS and Android, and the feature set includes app-based sound personalization. That gives listeners a route to adjust the presentation, but it does not make the default tuning universally appealing. TechRadar praised the soundstage while describing the out-of-box sound as disappointing compared with top headphones and noting weaker treble that may benefit from adjustment. How long does the MOMENTUM 5 battery last, and can it be replaced?
Sennheiser specifies up to 57 hours of music playback over Bluetooth with ANC enabled, measured using an iPhone at medium volume. Treat that as a manufacturer’s maximum under its stated test condition, not a promise that every listener will get 57 hours; actual runtime can vary with volume, use and settings. The specification also lists a 700 mAh lithium-ion battery that can be exchanged. That is a meaningful distinction from headphones whose batteries are not described as user-exchangeable, but the cited specification does not provide a replacement procedure, replacement-part price or service terms. Check Sennheiser’s current support information for those details rather than assuming an exchange is effortless or cost-free.

Does it support aptX Lossless and Dolby Atmos?
Sennheiser’s support specifications list Bluetooth 5.4 and these codecs: SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive and Snapdragon Sound. Codec availability depends on the transmitting device and its software as well as the headphones; a listed codec does not mean every phone, computer or music service will use it. Dolby Atmos with head tracking is a separate spatial-audio feature, not a Bluetooth codec. Sennheiser’s announcement tied it to a firmware update and requires an Atmos-enabled source device and compatible content.
