Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For a new project that needs Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit plus an integrated testing workflow, Playwright is a strong starting point. Choose Selenium if WebDriver, its language ecosystem, or distributed Selenium Grid execution fits your existing setup. Choose Puppeteer when a JavaScript-first workflow suits your task, but verify its current browser and language support against its own documentation before committing.
There is no evidence here for a universal speed winner. The right choice depends on target browsers, programming language, test workflow, and remote execution requirements.
How the three tools differ
All three automate browsers, but they come from different project models. Selenium centers on WebDriver, Playwright provides a cross-language automation stack with a documented test workflow, and Puppeteer is a JavaScript-oriented option whose current feature matrix should be checked directly before selection.
- Selenium: An umbrella browser-automation project centered on WebDriver. Selenium describes WebDriver as an interface for writing instruction sets that can run interchangeably in many browsers. Its documentation includes browser implementations and Selenium Grid for execution across multiple machines. Selenium documentation
- Playwright: Supports JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, and .NET bindings built on a shared underlying implementation. Its documentation covers Chromium, Firefox, WebKit, branded Chrome and Edge channels, and emulated mobile-device configurations. Playwright documentation
- Puppeteer: A possible fit when a JavaScript-first approach matches the project. The current browser coverage, language support, integrations, and scaling characteristics are not established in enough detail here for a complete feature-by-feature comparison; consult Puppeteer’s official documentation for the requirements that matter to your project.
Playwright’s migration documentation says WebKit is not supported by Puppeteer. That is a claim made in Playwright’s comparison, not a complete independent assessment of Puppeteer’s current capabilities. Playwright migration guide

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Compare them on the decisions that affect your project
| Decision | Selenium | Playwright | Puppeteer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Browser targets | WebDriver and browser-specific documentation cover Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari; capabilities vary by browser. Selenium documentation Browser documentation | Chromium, Firefox, WebKit, branded Chrome and Edge channels, and mobile emulation. Playwright’s WebKit build is not branded Safari. Browser documentation | Playwright’s migration guide says WebKit is unsupported. A complete current browser matrix is not established here; check Puppeteer’s own documentation. Playwright migration guide |
| Languages | Examples cover Java, Python, C#, Ruby, JavaScript, and Kotlin. Selenium documentation | JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, and .NET; integrations differ by language. Playwright documentation | Verify current language support and requirements in the official documentation; a complete comparison is not established here. Puppeteer documentation |
| Interactions and waiting | Uses the WebDriver command model; no comparative default-wait claim is established here. Selenium documentation | Locators, web-first assertions, and auto-waiting are emphasized. The design can reduce the need for explicit waits, but does not guarantee tests will never be flaky. Playwright migration guide | No detailed interaction or waiting comparison is established here. Check the official documentation for your use case. Puppeteer documentation |
| Scaling and test workflow | Selenium Grid supports distributing browser execution across multiple machines. Selenium documentation | Documents multi-browser projects and parallelization features in its Node.js test runner. Playwright documentation | Scaling characteristics are not established here; verify the current documentation and your intended execution environment. Puppeteer documentation |
Which one should you use?
Choose Playwright for a new cross-browser test project
Playwright is a sensible first evaluation when you need Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit and want an integrated workflow built around locators, auto-waiting, and web-first assertions. Check that its language bindings and test integrations fit your team. Keep Playwright and its browser builds current, as its documentation recommends. Playwright browser documentation
Choose Selenium when WebDriver or Grid matches your infrastructure
Selenium fits teams already invested in WebDriver, teams that need its documented language examples, or projects that benefit from Selenium Grid’s distributed browser allocation. Confirm the capability details for each target browser rather than assuming every browser behaves or is supported identically. Selenium browser documentation

Choose Puppeteer when its current requirements fit your JavaScript workflow
Puppeteer may suit a JavaScript-centered project, but verify its current supported browsers, language requirements, and integrations in its own documentation. The available evidence does not justify a more definitive recommendation about its present feature coverage or scaling. Puppeteer documentation
Do not choose on speed claims alone
No directly comparable benchmark with shared conditions establishes that Selenium, Playwright, or Puppeteer is universally fastest. Results depend on the browser, workload, test design, machine, and configuration. If execution time is decisive, benchmark your own representative flows under the same browser versions and environment, and record those conditions alongside the results.

For screenshots without building browser automation
If your goal is to capture website screenshots rather than build browser tests, try ScreenshotNeo first: it returns a screenshot or PDF from one GET request and removes consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. It also provides an MCP server for AI agents.
Or skip the browser setup
Make one request with a URL to receive an image or PDF. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. An MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
