“Selenium 103” refers here to Selenium 4.3.0 and its historical support for Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP) 103. Released on June 23, 2022, Selenium 4.3.0 also removed deprecated Python locator methods and made several Java-side changes. CDP 103 support did not remain current: Selenium 4.5.0 later removed it.

What changed in Selenium 4.3.0?

The release notes cover distinct changes in the Java and Python bindings; version details should not be treated as identical across Selenium’s language bindings. PyPI records the Python package release date as June 23, 2022. PyPI’s Selenium 4.3.0 release record also lists the package wheel. The Selenium Server JAR is a separate component relevant to Remote WebDriver or legacy Selenium API use; an ordinary, non-remote WebDriver script does not need that Java server. PyPI package details

Java and shared release notes

  • CDP versions 85, 101, 102, and 103 were supported.
  • Deprecated capability-based WebDriver methods, deprecated Actions commands, and deprecated getPlatform and getVersion methods were removed.
  • Non-W3C browser-matching paths were removed.
  • BiDi log event support and a BiDi augmenter were added.
  • Native ARM socket support was added.
  • Firefox profile preferences could be added when retrieving a profile from a file.

CDP support concerns compatibility with versions of Chrome DevTools Protocol. BiDi is a separate browser automation protocol direction; the 4.3.0 notes describe specific BiDi additions, not a guarantee of broad browser support. Selenium Java changelog

Python binding changes

  • The deprecated find_element_by_* and find_elements_by_* methods were removed.
  • Deprecated Opera support was removed.
  • The binding fully adopted Python 3.7 syntax and features.
  • A DevTools version fallback for mismatches was added, and cooperative multiple inheritance and type hints were improved.

The locator-method removal is the main practical migration issue for Python code that still calls those deprecated methods. Check the documentation for the Selenium version installed in your project for its supported locator approach rather than assuming an old call remains available. Python changes for Selenium 4.3.0

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Why was find_element_by_* removed?

Those methods were deprecated before Selenium 4.3.0 and were removed in this release. As a result, Python scripts using calls such as find_element_by_id or find_elements_by_xpath need to be updated to the locator API supported by the version they run. This is a breaking change for code that still depends on the removed methods; it is not a change to the browser’s ability to locate elements.

Does Selenium support CDP 103?

Selenium 4.3.0’s Java changelog lists CDP 103 support, but that is a historical statement about that release, not a current compatibility promise. Selenium 4.5.0, announced September 28, 2022, added CDP 105 and 106 support while removing 102 and 103. Browser and Selenium versions move on, so check the compatibility details for the exact Selenium binding and version you use. Selenium 4.5.0 announcement

Where to check package and server requirements

PyPI’s Selenium 4.3.0 entry identifies the Python distribution and its wheel. It also explains the Selenium Server JAR’s relevance to Remote WebDriver or legacy Selenium API usage. Local, non-remote WebDriver scripts do not require the server JAR solely to use Selenium. Selenium 4.3.0 on PyPI
