Indeni began by trying to make firewall and security-device operations easier for administrators. Its early product monitored devices, analyzed their data against a knowledge base of potential issues, and alerted teams to problems and possible remedies. The company later described a broader security infrastructure automation platform; BlueCat announced it had acquired Indeni in June 2023.

What problem did Indeni set out to solve?

In a January 16, 2013 interview with SecurityWeek, founder and CEO Yoni Leitersdorf described Indeni’s mission as answering “how do we make the lives of firewall administrators easier?” He framed the challenge as administrative overload: security devices were complicated to manage, and errors or delays could have serious consequences for an organization.

Leitersdorf said customers also struggled to keep pace with security requirements, product versions, and vendors’ configuration guidance in a later 2020 interview. Those descriptions reflect his account of customer problems, rather than quantified findings about the wider market.

What did Indeni’s early product do?

In the 2013 interview, Leitersdorf described a product that gathered information from network devices, compared it with a knowledge base of possible issues and misconfigurations, and alerted administrators to existing or potential problems and ways to address them. The emphasis was operational health—whether security appliances were running properly—rather than simply watching network activity.

Leitersdorf characterized the intended outcome as prevention: “The end result is that Indeni predicts downtime and avoids it.” That is the founder’s description of the product’s goal, not an independently verified performance result.

How did Indeni’s product positioning evolve?

Indeni later used the term “Security Infrastructure Automation” (SIA) for a broader platform. The company described it as an operational-intelligence layer alongside policy management and security orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR), with expert-contributed automation elements intended to help IT operations teams detect and triage issues. These descriptions appear in Indeni’s platform materials and documentation, and represent the company’s own product positioning.

Indeni’s documentation describes a collaborative workflow for writing, testing, reviewing, and releasing automation. That suggests an approach built around reusable contributions and review, rather than treating every operational check as a one-off script. The available company materials do not establish how every legacy product or service is offered today.

Who founded Indeni, and what was its early business model?

SecurityWeek identified Leitersdorf as founder and CEO and Zak Rubinstein as co-founder and VP of Sales. In that interview, Leitersdorf said he had worked in software and security, including in Israel’s military intelligence and at Check Point, and left Check Point in 2009 to start Indeni. These are biographical details reported in the 2013 interview.

Leitersdorf described a channel-focused sales model involving distributors, system integrators, channel partners, and value-added resellers. He said customers could choose a perpetual license, with service costs beginning in the second year, or an annual subscription. He also named Leumi Card as Indeni’s first banking customer, saying it received an alpha product in March 2010 and became a banking customer in November 2010. Those dates and commercial terms describe the company at the time of the interview, not current offers.

How did Indeni position itself against other tools?

In the 2013 interview, Indeni’s positioning contrasted general network-monitoring tools with a focus on the operational needs of security devices. Its later SIA language emphasized security-infrastructure expertise and automation workflow. These are the company’s historical and later positioning claims, not an objective ranking of products.

What happened to Indeni?

On June 2, 2023, BlueCat announced its acquisition of Indeni. BlueCat said Indeni’s platform analyzes network-device configurations, metrics, and logs to detect and remediate appliance issues, and that the acquisition would enhance BlueCat’s DDI management platform. The announcement quoted Leitersdorf as Indeni’s founder and CEO at the time: “Indeni has been servicing the world’s leading organizations for over a decade, and we’re looking forward to expanding our reach to BlueCat’s current and future customers.”
