A “full page” setting is not a guarantee that every long, animated, or lazy-loaded page will render completely, so test with representative URLs before committing.
Screenshotlayer alternatives for full-page website screenshots
The practical choice is between a hosted screenshot endpoint and browser automation you operate. Hosted services reduce setup for a single capture request; self-managed automation gives you control over a larger sequence of browser actions. The options below are not based on independent comparative testing, and none should be assumed to produce identical results on every site.
| Option | Approach | Full-page and lazy-content handling | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotNeo | Hosted screenshot API and MCP server | Supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded; clean-up steps for consent banners, popups, and chat widgets can be switched off. | Developers who want a single API call, clean captures, and clear billing outcomes. |
| ScreenshotOne | Hosted screenshot API | full_page=true scrolls to request lazy-loaded images. Its by_sections algorithm captures sections and combines them; scroll distance and delay can be tuned. |
Teams that want a hosted endpoint with documented controls for long or lazy-loaded pages. |
| Browserless | Hosted browser API | Puppeteer-style fullPage: true is documented; scrollPage: true can trigger lazy loading. |
Developers who want a hosted browser interface and Puppeteer-style screenshot options. |
| Playwright | Self-managed browser automation framework | Capture behavior is implemented in your code; it is not a one-call hosted screenshot endpoint. | Teams that need a screenshot as one step in a custom browser workflow and can operate that code. |
Screenshotlayer itself advertises URL-to-screenshot capture, PNG/JPEG/GIF output, viewport customization, delays, and a full-height example using fullpage=1. Those are vendor-described capabilities, not an independent quality assessment. See its product page.
How to choose an alternative
Choose by workflow, not just the full-page switch
- One URL, one capture: A hosted API is usually the simpler integration shape. ScreenshotNeo, ScreenshotOne, and Browserless all offer hosted approaches, though their controls differ.
- Long pages or lazy images: Look for scroll-before-capture behavior and, if needed, adjustable scroll timing or section-based capture. ScreenshotOne documents both a section algorithm and scroll tuning; Browserless documents
scrollPage. - Several browser actions before capture: If the task requires a sequence such as navigation, interaction, and then capture, custom Playwright code may suit the workflow better. Browserless notes that ordinary REST requests are task-oriented rather than multi-step workflows; its
/functionroute supports custom code. - Output format matters: Screenshotlayer lists PNG, JPEG, and GIF; Browserless documents PNG, JPEG, and WebP. Check each current vendor’s documentation for the exact format you need before integrating.
What full-page capture does—and does not—solve
A full-page option aims to capture beyond the visible viewport, but page behavior can complicate the result. Lazy-loaded images may appear only after scrolling; animations can change between frames; long pages may load content incrementally; and infinite-scroll pages may have no fixed final height. ScreenshotOne’s documentation describes reliable full-page rendering as a challenge, and both ScreenshotOne and Browserless document scroll-related behavior to address lazy loading.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For a fair selection, test URLs representative of your production pages: short and long layouts, lazy-loaded media, pages with animation, and any pages that append content while scrolling. Inspect whether the final image contains the expected lower-page content and whether layout shifts or repeated sections appear. This is a validation recommendation, not a claim that one service has been independently shown to outperform another.
ScreenshotNeo: a hosted alternative to try first
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media. Its API returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from a GET request. It supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, and accepts options including CSS selector capture, viewport and device presets, dark mode, custom CSS and JavaScript, selector waits, delay or network-idle waits, and request blocking. Its consent cleanup accepts cookie banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off.
Billing is tied to capture outcome: clean shots are billed, while bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Responses identify the page verdict and billing status with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. The MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. All features are on every plan: Free includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots, with higher tiers available. Yearly billing gives two months free. Make a one-request capture
Get an API key, then substitute it for YOUR_API_KEY and set the target URL. The examples save the returned bytes as a WebP file. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details.

Practical integration checks
- Validate the image, not just the HTTP response. A successful request alone does not establish that lazy content or the complete page appears in the output. Inspect representative captures.
- Use realistic waits. Pages that populate after navigation may need a selector, delay, or network-idle wait. Avoid assuming a single timing value works for every site.
- Account for dynamic pages. Animation, client-side layout shifts, and infinite scrolling can make a “full page” result ambiguous. Decide what portion of a continuously growing page counts as complete.
- Check integration limits and workflow shape. Browserless documents ordinary REST calls as individual tasks and provides
/functionfor custom code; choose a custom workflow when multiple browser actions must be coordinated. - Compare costs using your own capture pattern. The available product information does not establish an independent price or reliability ranking across ScreenshotOne, Browserless, and Playwright. For ScreenshotNeo, review the plan quantities and yearly-billing terms on its site.
Troubleshooting full-page screenshot problems
Images or sections are missing below the fold
The page may load content only after scrolling. Enable the service’s scroll or full-page behavior; for ScreenshotOne, use full_page=true and consider its by_sections algorithm, scroll distance, and delay. Browserless documents scrollPage: true. Retest the affected URL rather than assuming the same adjustment suits other sites.

The screenshot is cut off or has awkward seams
Long or complex layouts can behave differently during a full-page capture. Try section-based capture where available and inspect whether fixed or sticky elements repeat. If the page uses infinite scroll, define a stopping condition or capture a bounded section instead of expecting a natural end.

A multi-step browser task does not fit a standard endpoint
A single screenshot request is not the same as a persistent, multi-step browser session. Browserless documents custom workflows through /function; with Playwright, implement the sequence in your own code. Choose based on whether you want to own the browser automation or use a hosted task endpoint.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a full-page screenshot capture an infinite-scroll page completely?
Not necessarily: an infinite-scroll page may keep adding content and have no defined final height. Set a stopping rule or capture a specific portion.
Does Playwright replace Screenshotlayer with a hosted API call?
No. Playwright is a self-managed automation framework, so you write and operate the browser capture code rather than sending a single request to a hosted screenshot endpoint.
