The claim that SBI Mutual Fund raised its Amagi Media Labs stake to 9.65% is not confirmed by the available disclosures. SBI Funds Management reported an aggregate holding of 5.4264% after a January 2026 purchase; later figures report 7.65% in a different scope or source, but do not establish the headline’s 9.65% figure.

What SBI’s January 2026 filing says

In a letter dated January 22, 2026, SBI Funds Management disclosed under Regulation 29(1) of the SEBI (Substantial Acquisition of Shares & Takeovers) Regulations, 2011, that SBI Mutual Fund schemes acquired 7,732,654 Amagi shares on January 21. At the close of business that day, the schemes held 11,739,523 shares—5.4264% of Amagi’s paid-up share capital, according to the filing copy hosted by Business Standard.

That is a dated, aggregate figure for the schemes covered by the filing. It does not verify a 9.65% holding at a later date.

Why later percentages do not confirm 9.65%

Other reported figures use different dates or describe different ownership scopes. They should not be treated as interchangeable:

A scheme-level holding, an asset manager’s combined scheme holdings, and the entire mutual-fund category answer different questions. They can also refer to different reporting dates. A sound comparison needs the transaction or disclosure date, shares held, scope of schemes included, and the share-capital denominator.

Do not confuse ownership with portfolio weight

A January 2026 HDFC Mutual Fund factsheet result lists Amagi at 0.21% in a portfolio and separately shows a 9.65% subtotal. That subtotal is not Amagi’s ownership percentage and does not establish SBI’s stake. HDFC’s January 2026 factsheet is a fund-portfolio document, not evidence for the SBI ownership claim.

Portfolio weight measures a security’s share of a fund’s assets. An ownership percentage measures shares held against a company share-capital denominator. The two percentages are not comparable.

What would settle the headline claim

A newer exchange filing or reliable report should identify the date, number of shares held, whether it covers one SBI scheme or SBI Mutual Fund schemes in aggregate, and the paid-up or diluted share-capital denominator. Without those details, the 9.65% figure should be treated as unverified rather than as a confirmed stake increase.
