The clearest documented distinction is their processor family. Samsung described the Plus as ARM-based and the Pro as powered by Intel Core m3. The available material does not establish comparative speed, battery life in real use, or which model performs better for a particular workload.

The specifications for the exact Plus configuration come from Samsung’s January 2017 Chromebook Plus datasheet. Do not assume its OP1 processor or model number applies to the Pro.

What are the original Chromebook Plus’s specifications?
Samsung’s datasheet names the model XE513C24-K01US. Its listed configuration is:
- ChromeOS
- OP1 hexa-core processor
- 4 GB onboard LPDDR3 memory
- 32 GB eMMC storage
- 12.3-inch touchscreen with 2400 × 1600 resolution and a 3:2 aspect ratio
- Two USB-C ports, with USB-C display connectivity specified up to 4K
Google published a weight of 2.38 lb for the Chromebook Plus and Pro in its 2017 product description. Samsung advertised up to eight hours of battery life at launch; that is a manufacturer claim, not a measured result or an estimate of the runtime of a used unit. The sources do not establish present-day battery health or real-world runtime.

Does the 2017 Samsung Chromebook Plus still get updates?
Google’s current Auto Update policy listing gives the original Samsung Chromebook Plus an automatic-update endpoint of August 2023 and the Chromebook Pro an endpoint of June 2023. The Chromebook Plus (V2) is a separate model, listed through August 2027; its date does not apply to the original Plus. These dates reflect Google’s policy listing checked on October 5, 2026, and policy pages can change. See Google’s Auto Update policy.
Google’s 2023 announcement says some pre-2021 Chromebooks already in use may be eligible to extend updates to ten years from the platform release. That is not a guarantee for every Plus or Pro: certain devices require opting in, and Google warns that some features and services may not work on older devices receiving extended updates. Check the specific Chromebook rather than relying on the general ten-year policy. Google’s announcement explains the extension.

How to check a used Chromebook’s update schedule
- On the Chromebook, open Settings.
- Select About ChromeOS, then Additional details.
- Open Update schedule and check the date and any available extended-update option for that device.
- If the Chromebook is managed by a school or workplace, ask its administrator about its update status and management policy.
Google says an old Chromebook can still be used after updates stop, but it no longer receives software updates. That distinction matters if you depend on current software maintenance or use the machine for managed work or school. Google’s guidance is at Use or upgrade an old Chromebook.
Can a USB-C hub work with the Chromebook Plus?
The XE513C24-K01US has two USB-C ports, and Samsung documents USB-C display connectivity up to 4K. That makes a compatible USB-C hub a plausible way to add connections or attach an external display, but the listed specifications do not verify any particular hub. Before choosing one, confirm compatibility, the display resolution it supports, and how its power delivery works with the Chromebook.
What can be said about the wider fleet of 2017 laptops?
The available information does not identify the other laptops or provide their configurations, condition, workloads, or test results. It therefore cannot support a model-by-model comparison, performance ranking, or claim that the Samsung convertible was faster or slower than the rest of the fleet.
