The SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD (USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 model) and Crucial X10 Pro are two alternatives worth comparing with the Samsung T9. The T9 and the cited SanDisk model are both rated by their manufacturers for up to 2,000 MB/s and support USB 3.2 Gen 2×2; Crucial lists up to 2,100 MB/s sequential read for the X10 Pro. Those are manufacturer specifications, not results from a shared head-to-head test. Your computer’s USB support may matter more than the biggest number on a drive’s packaging.

Samsung T9 alternatives at a glance

Drive Manufacturer-stated speed and interface Protection stated in the cited materials What to check
Samsung T9 Up to 2,000 MB/s sequential read/write; USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20 Gbps). Samsung’s 2023 announcement and T9 product page. Drop resistance up to 3 meters, according to Samsung product materials. Samsung’s announcement says this claim is based on an internal controlled free-fall shock test. Samsung also states a 5-year limited warranty. Samsung announcement; product page. Use as the reference point for interface, stated protection and warranty.
SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD, cited USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 listing Up to 2,000 MB/s; USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 on the cited UK listing. SanDisk’s US product page also lists up to 2,000 MB/s. Not stated in the cited evidence. SanDisk pages show different product identifiers. Confirm the exact SKU, interface and warranty terms in your region.
Crucial X10 Pro Up to 2,100 MB/s sequential read, according to Crucial’s product flyer. IP55 water and dust resistance; drop resistance up to 2 meters, according to Crucial’s flyer. Check whether its stated protection and read-speed claim suit your needs; the figure is not a comparative test against the T9.

The SanDisk interface detail above is tied to the cited UK listing, while the speed claim appears on SanDisk’s cited US and UK product pages. Verify the precise model and local terms rather than assuming every product carrying the Extreme PRO name has the same specifications. The Crucial speed and protection claims come from its X10 Pro flyer.

Check your computer’s USB port before choosing by speed

The Samsung T9 and the cited SanDisk model use USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, a 20 Gbps interface. Samsung describes the T9’s interface as two 10 Gbps lanes. To make use of that interface capability, the host computer must support the relevant connection; a drive’s advertised maximum does not guarantee that a particular computer will reach it.

  1. Look up the USB specifications for the computer or device you plan to connect. Confirm whether it supports USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, not just a USB-C connector.
  2. Check the cable and connection you will use against the drive and host’s supported interface.
  3. If the host does not support the drive’s faster interface, decide whether you still want the drive for its other features. Do not pay extra solely on the assumption that the headline speed will be available on your setup.

USB-C describes a connector shape, not by itself the transfer capability of the port. The relevant interface support is what determines whether the host can use the advertised connection mode.

Which alternative fits your priorities?

Choose the SanDisk Extreme PRO when its exact model matches your setup

The cited Gen 2×2 listing gives the SanDisk Extreme PRO a manufacturer-rated maximum of 2,000 MB/s, matching the T9’s advertised maximum. That makes it a direct specification-based alternative to investigate, not proof that the two drives perform identically in real workloads. Confirm the SKU and regional warranty before comparing it with the T9.

Consider the Crucial X10 Pro for its stated IP55 rating

Crucial lists IP55 water and dust resistance and drop resistance up to 2 meters for the X10 Pro. Its flyer also claims up to 2,100 MB/s sequential read. Those manufacturer claims may be useful when comparing published specifications, but they do not establish that the X10 Pro is faster or more durable overall than the T9: the published speed figures are not from a common test, and protection claims do not describe every kind of accident or exposure.

Keep the T9 in the comparison

The T9 remains a useful reference if you want USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, Samsung’s stated up-to-3-meter drop resistance and its 5-year limited warranty. Samsung identifies the drop-resistance figure as based on an internal controlled free-fall shock test, so treat it as a manufacturer claim rather than a guarantee against damage in every fall.

How to compare before buying

  • Interface compatibility: Check your host’s supported USB standard first, especially if choosing a drive for its 20 Gbps capability.
  • Exact model and capacity: Confirm the full product identifier and capacity on the seller’s regional listing. This is particularly important for the SanDisk Extreme PRO, whose cited pages use different identifiers.
  • Protection claims: Compare the specific claims relevant to your use, such as IP55 or a stated drop-resistance height, without treating unlike manufacturer claims as a controlled durability ranking.
  • Warranty: Samsung states a 5-year limited warranty for the T9. Comparable SanDisk and Crucial warranty terms were not established here; check the terms that apply to the exact model and country.
  • Current price and stock: Check live local listings at the time of purchase. No current prices or availability are established here, so there is no reliable price or value ranking among these drives.

What the speed numbers do—and do not—tell you

“Up to” figures are manufacturer-rated maxima, not a promise of a specific transfer rate for every file, computer or workflow. Samsung rates the T9 at up to 2,000 MB/s sequential read/write; the cited SanDisk listing gives up to 2,000 MB/s; Crucial lists up to 2,100 MB/s sequential read for the X10 Pro. Because those claims are not same-method independent benchmarks, the small difference between the printed figures cannot establish which drive is fastest in practice.
