Samsung’s One UI 8 rollout began in September 2025, so it is no longer a preview based on leaks. Samsung announced the update on September 15, 2025, with the Galaxy S25 series first, and described it as an Android 16-based update centered on AI, personalization and device-specific experiences. Samsung later announced One UI 8.5, which began rolling out in Korea on May 6, 2026. Whether either update is available for a particular Galaxy device depends on its model and market.
When did One UI 8 come out?
Samsung announced the One UI 8 rollout on September 15, 2025, and said it would begin that week with the Galaxy S25 series. The company planned to expand availability to more Galaxy phones and tablets during October, including the Galaxy S24 family, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy S24 FE. This was a phased rollout, not a single worldwide release date. Samsung’s global announcement and its U.S. rollout announcement describe the launch timing.
Samsung had previously described One UI 8 as one of the first UI platforms to adopt Android 16 in its May 2025 beta announcement.
How One UI 8.5 changes the timing context
One UI 8.5 is a later release, not the original One UI 8 rollout. Samsung announced that 8.5 would begin rolling out in Korea on May 6, 2026, with other regions to follow. Its announcement listed the Galaxy S25 series, S25 FE, S24 series, S24 FE, Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, Tab S11 series, and Tab S10 series. Samsung cautioned that availability and timing vary by market and model. That announcement does not establish which version is currently installed or offered to every individual device. What new features does One UI 8 have?
Samsung framed One UI 8 around multimodal AI, personalized suggestions and interfaces adapted to different Galaxy form factors. The features below are Samsung’s descriptions; availability and requirements differ, and they should not be read as an independent assessment of performance or security.
Now Bar and Now Brief
Now Bar surfaces ongoing app activity and media progress, including on the Galaxy Z Flip’s FlexWindow, and supports activity from more third-party apps. Now Brief presents personalized information such as traffic, reminders, Samsung Moments, recommendations and Galaxy Watch health insights. Samsung says Now Brief requires a Samsung Account and that availability varies by country, language, model and app.

Samsung’s beta announcement also described Knox Vault and user choice over on-device data processing.
