Choose Samsung Health Together to compete with friends over step counts; choose Google Fit to share a finished activity record. They solve different sharing problems: Together is built around walking and running challenges, while Google Fit lets you send a selected journal activity, with available details, through another app or as an image.
Which app fits the kind of sharing you want?
| Your goal | Better fit | What it does | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compete with friends on steps | Samsung Health Together | Invite friends to individual or team walking and running challenges. | Setup and availability can vary by device and region. |
| Send one completed workout or activity | Google Fit | Share a selected journal entry with available metrics, a photo, or a map, using another app or saving an image. | The activity-sharing flow does not share sleep sessions. |
| Share broader health categories with a friend or family member | Samsung Health, where locally available | Samsung’s Australia product page describes sharing activity, sleep, steps, and body composition. | This description is regional; confirm local availability and controls. |
| Control third-party app access to fitness data | Google Fit and Health Connect | Review connected apps, disconnect them, and manage app access to supported data. | Access depends on the app, data type, and integration. |
How Samsung Health Together challenges work
Samsung documents two challenge formats. “Get there first” is a race to reach a step target; “Go the farthest” rewards the highest step total during a set period. Challenges can be individual or team-based, and friends can be added by QR code or invitation link, according to Samsung’s US Together support guide.
Inviting friends and controlling visibility
The same Samsung guide describes settings for who can see your step count and who can send you challenge invitations. The documented choices include limits such as friends or no one, alongside broader visibility options. It also describes syncing contacts and automatically including new friends in the leaderboard. Setting names and available choices may differ across app versions or regions.
Setup and availability
Samsung’s current US guidance says Together is available on Android phones and describes setup involving contacts access and phone-number confirmation. It also says Together on a tablet must first be started on a phone. Treat these as US support instructions, not a guarantee that every device, region, or future app version has the same feature or screens; see Samsung’s support page.

How Google Fit shares an activity
Google Fit’s documented sharing flow starts with a selected activity in the Journal. Choose Share, select the available details you want to include—such as metrics, a photo, or a map—and then send the result to another app or save it as an image. Google says sleep sessions cannot be shared through this activity-sharing flow. The steps are documented in Google Fit’s activity-sharing instructions.
This is useful when you want to send a record of one completed activity. It is not the same as inviting friends into a built-in step challenge: the cited Google instructions describe sharing an activity entry, not a social competition feature.

Sharing health data with other apps is a separate question
Google says users can review what data types connected apps may access and disconnect those apps. Its Health Connect documentation describes an Android platform that stores health and fitness data on the device and lets users control which apps can access supported data and for how long. These are permission and data-access controls, not proof of a particular app-to-app sync. See Google’s explanation of connected-app sharing.
Samsung’s Australia product page describes a broader friend-or-family sharing option for activity, sleep, steps, and body composition: Samsung Health | Apps & Services. Because that description is regional, check local Samsung Health information before relying on those categories being available to you. This broader health-data sharing is distinct from Together’s challenge leaderboard.

Can Samsung Health and Google Fit share data or join the same challenge?
The cited official guidance does not establish a direct Samsung Health-to-Google Fit synchronization path in every device, region, or app version, nor does it confirm that a Samsung Health Together challenge can include Google Fit users. General connected-app or Health Connect documentation does not verify either specific capability. Do not assume the apps will sync or let their users compete together without current, product-specific confirmation.
