Samsung announced three foldable phones—the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8—alongside the Galaxy Watch Ultra2, Galaxy Watch9, and intelligent eyewear. The event’s livestream times are now historical, but the lineup and Samsung’s event details are useful context for anyone following the announcement.
When was the Samsung Unpacked event?
Samsung held Galaxy Unpacked in London, U.K., on July 22, 2026. Samsung’s post-event recap identifies Old Billingsgate as the venue. The invitation, published July 8, called the event “A New Shape Unfolds” and described London as “a city that moves forward, not by chasing trends, but by setting them.” That was Samsung’s promotional framing, not an independent assessment of the city or the products. Samsung’s invitation and event recap provide the before-and-after details.
What was announced at Samsung Unpacked?
Samsung’s July 23 recap lists three foldables, two watches, and intelligent eyewear. The invitation announced the event theme and schedule but did not name the individual models later identified in the recap.
- Foldable phones: Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8.
- Watches: Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9.
- Eyewear: intelligent eyewear; the recap does not give it a retail model name.
Samsung presented the announcement as an AI-powered Galaxy ecosystem. That describes the company’s positioning; it does not independently establish how well the devices perform or what benefits users will experience. Samsung’s recap has the complete event lineup.

How Samsung positioned the three foldable phones
Samsung’s July 22 Galaxy Z series announcement distinguishes the phones by form factor and intended use. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions, not independent comparative test results.
| Model | Samsung’s stated focus | What that positioning suggests |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold8 | Immersive viewing and discovery | A large-screen foldable experience centered on viewing and exploring content. |
| Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra | Productivity, a larger workspace, and content creation | A foldable aimed at users who want room for multitasking and creating. |
| Galaxy Z Flip8 | Compact interaction, quick access, and self-expression | A smaller folding format focused on portability and convenient interactions. |
Samsung’s announcement describes the Fold8 Ultra as having an 8-inch main display, a 200-megapixel main camera, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera. These are manufacturer specifications. The release’s footnotes qualify screen size as a diagonal measurement and describe battery testing conditions; specifications should be read with those qualifications rather than treated as independent test findings. See Samsung’s Galaxy Z series announcement for the full product descriptions and footnotes.

For the July 22 broadcast, Samsung listed Samsung.com, Samsung Newsroom, and its YouTube channel as viewing options. The invitation gave the start time as 2 p.m. BST, 9 a.m. EDT, and 3 p.m. CEST. Those were the scheduled times for the completed event, not a current livestream schedule. Samsung’s invitation is the source for the original broadcast details: Samsung Global Newsroom.
What the announcement says about availability
Samsung’s July 22 product release said foldable pre-orders opened that day in select markets. It also mentioned colors and a six-month Google AI Pro trial, but market eligibility, colors, and offer terms can vary. The announcement does not establish current stock, current prices, or availability in every region, so it should not be used as a guide to what is purchasable now. Check Samsung or regional retailers for current terms. Samsung’s release records the original pre-order announcement.

What Samsung said about AI
Samsung framed the devices as part of a more personal and adaptive Galaxy experience. In the product announcement, TM Roh, Samsung’s Chief Executive Officer, President, and Head of the Device eXperience (DX) Division, said: “As AI becomes more agentic, mobile devices will become the most personal entry point to experiences that understand and adapt to each user.” This is Roh’s perspective on where mobile AI is headed, not a verified prediction or a measured result from the event.
