The Galaxy S23 5G is the smaller, older flagship, with a dedicated 3x optical-zoom camera. Google’s newer Pixel 10a has a larger 6.3-inch display and a longer stated software-update commitment. Neither is automatically the better buy: the Pixel’s published $499 starting price is for the US, while the S23’s current price depends on its market, condition and availability.

Samsung’s S23 launch announcement and specification sheet document the S23’s display, processor and camera hardware. Google’s Pixel 10a announcement and Google Store US listing provide the Pixel’s launch positioning, price and display details.
Price difference depends on where and what you buy
Google announced the Pixel 10a at a US starting price of $499 in 2026, and the Google Store US listing accessed October 5, 2026, also showed it from $499. Google’s India announcement gave a separate launch price of ₹49,999. These are market-specific figures, not interchangeable prices.
No current, universal S23 price is established. Samsung Australia’s product page identifies a 128GB S23 but marks it “Not for sale”; that does not establish availability or pricing elsewhere, including for used or refurbished devices. Comparing the US Pixel price with an S23 listing from another country or in a different condition would not show a meaningful price difference.

- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
For a useful local comparison, match storage, unlocked or carrier status, condition, warranty and seller. Check current offers in your country rather than treating the Pixel’s US starting price as a global benchmark.
Size, display and everyday fit
The S23 has the smaller screen at 6.1 inches, versus 6.3 inches on the Pixel 10a. Both support refresh rates up to 120Hz, while Samsung specifies an adaptive 48–120Hz range for the S23. If a compact phone matters, the S23’s screen size is the clearer distinction in these specifications; if you prefer a larger viewing area, the Pixel is larger.

These display figures do not establish which screen looks better in person. The supplied specifications do not provide a controlled side-by-side assessment of brightness, color or viewing experience.
Camera hardware: the S23 has a dedicated 3x telephoto
The S23’s rear-camera setup includes a separate 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, alongside its 50MP main and 12MP ultrawide cameras. That gives the S23 a specific hardware advantage for optical 3x zoom over a phone without a comparable dedicated telephoto camera; the cited Pixel launch information does not provide enough detail here to make that exact hardware comparison.

Google promotes Pixel camera features and computational photography, but the available sources do not establish which phone takes better photos overall. Image quality can vary with lighting, movement, zoom range and processing preferences. Do not read camera megapixel counts or a hardware specification as a real-world quality verdict.
Software support and choosing an older phone
Samsung’s published policy for the S23 series is four major OS upgrades and five years of security updates, according to Samsung Gulf’s support information. Google’s 2026 Pixel 10a launch announcement states seven years of software updates. These are manufacturer commitments; they do not guarantee that every update arrives at the same time across carriers, models or regions.

The total support policy for the S23 is not the same as the time remaining for a specific phone bought in 2026. Before purchasing one, verify its regional model and current support status. The Pixel 10a is the newer device, while the stated support periods favor it in overall length.
